M&B overnight Grid Refs.

Post by Anthony »

Any reason why we have to set camp at specific GR's?

I like the solitude, and er I don't want to be ridiculed for turning up with a tent :?

Anthony ... if you want to be on your own that's fine, hey it's not like I'll know where you are ;)

The reasons for the overnight GR's is firstly safety (yes, yes, I know) and the other reason is social ... it could be a long night, so for some a bit of company might be welcome.

Ah cool cheers Stu. Tbh its quite cool to think that if the sun goes down one doesnt need to worry about finding a suitable spot in the dark.

Kit pondering already started!

I'm seriously considering taking a tent, or at least the flysheet/poles instead of a tarp, but might just see what the forecast is like.

I'll certainly be factoring a few overnight GR in that have room for tentage ... plus others pandering to the tree dwellers. The hardcore in bivvy bags can kip anywhere

Santa is bringing me a Laser Photon so it would be rude not to use it, especially as it packs down to this-

I've got socks that take up more space than that ;)

Not only have you been rummaging around in your Other Half's drawers, looking for Xmas pressies whilst she's out but you've also photographed the results and posted it up in the public domain on a bloomin' internet forum.

I mean, how bloody stupid is that? ;-)

(My Regatta synthetic down booties that I bought for M&B are seven times bigger than that tent)

You'll be colder in a hammock than you will be on the ground Pete ... strange but true ;)

They're heavier than a tarp (and some tents for that matter) and now you're telling me they're less warm...
I don't quite see the point of hammocks :?

Stop it, you'll only go upsetting a certain someone.

I forgot yours was insulated Pete, be interesting to see how that works ... Although there are certain drawbacks to hammocks, they are very, very comfy and if you get your sleeping system sorted out they're also very snug.

@Pete - I think a hooped bivi will be the way forward for M&B - another piece of kit I'll have to buy!

It depends on the weather as to which way I'll swing(fnar fnar).
I've hammocked at just above freezing and was toast but if it was approaching -10 I'd prolly just take my -12 bag and a liner for a night with the ground dwellers.

@ Ian
Hammocks are heavier than tarps and neoairs(when you factor in the underquilt) but for me, the extra 500g far surpass the comfort that a neoair can give.

I can guarantee that you'll find one corfortable but you just wouldn't like the extra bulk and the extra ~half kilo.
