GPS content - does anyone make?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

A gps mount that mounts to the bike via the stem cap bolt? It seems like a good solution for those that run short stems, seeing as the standard Garmin mount can be a bit iffy in those situations.

Oh and I'm talking about eTrex, Dakota, Montana units, not edges.

I have bodged one using a standard Garmin mount, a headset spacer and copious amounts of JB weld ;) ... but I wondered if anyone actually produced a 'proper' one?

I have one for my Dakota 10, but didn't use it last weekend as I can't have my Exposure light clamp on the bars at the same time, so I used the standard Garmin one.

All it is is a piece of 3/4mm thick rectangular aluminum with a steerer sized hole in it and a couple of screw holes that the GPS unit holder attaches to. The aluminum replaces a headset spacer. The only issue I have with it (apart from clashing with my light) is that the ali is a bit short for me to be able to view the screen. I could make a longer piece, which would resolve this...

I shall take a pic tonight and post it to show you.

Also, I have a spare dakota holder if you are interested Stuart? I can only use one at a time so I would let it go if you fancy it. Pics later...

I'm sure I've seen the kind of thing I mean ... I think it was Klite in OZ (the dynamo lighting folk) but I can't find any trace on their website now.

Cheers Paul ... that's the fella, the one in the middle. Looks like a much better design than the standard Garmin mount.

How does that one clip onto the bottom of the garmin?

The standard mount has the sliders (like that one) and then has the little tab that sticks up and clips into the hole on the base of the garmin to secure it.

Not sure if this thread and links / products it mentions are of any use? Mosstly for the twist-in fitting ones but no doubt one of you clever beggars could bodge it to fit the slide-in type.
