Northern England Christmas Bivi

To join in with our fellow Welsh and Scottish brothers we'll also have a Northern version.

Provisionally thinking 14/15 of December in the Peak, but i'll confirm later once people show interest.

Details
Right then you lot, shall we say to meet in the Ladybower Inn (SK205865) sometime between 4-6 (sunset is at 4). Plenty of time for us to have a beer or two while people arrive. We'll decide on a bivi location in the pub depending on weather conditions, and how many additional miles people want to do.

As for getting to the pub, the decision is yours as to how many/few miles you feel like riding. If people are struggling for a route post up on here and i'm sure we'll sort something out.

Definitely interested. My only worry would be slowing everyone down due to being overweight and unfit :D , but gives me something to focus my training on, especially as i am interested in El & Back.

Dont worry about being slow it will be a very social occasion. I may even just give a GR for the bivi location and people can make up there own route there.

Certainly interested in that. Can think of a large flat spot in woodland over looking ladybower. That would give a wide variety of approach options from all day epics to 4 miles after the pub!

Hopefully be out. A GR could be good with a potential pub/cafe stop mentioned. Depending on location I may ride up Derby or Matlock.

The largish flat spot in threes I mentioned is somewhere close to SK 171941 - although I'd like to double check that just to be sure I have the GR correct (if that's where folk want to go) its relatively sheltered and fairly well hidden from the path by a steep bank. Which is fun to get down!

It's the top end of howden reservoir (the top one at ladybower) so is only 3.5miles from fairholmes for those who really don't want a long ride! Ladybower inn is close(ish) and does good beer and food for those who like that sort of thing

It's also a good spot to ride to for those who'd like to ride a bit further to get there! Not sure if people are familiar with some of the cheeky riding in those parts. 'Ive heard' that some if it is quite good.

Dont know the flat spot Ian but its a nice place for a bivi.

Another couple of favourites of mine are up at hope cross SK163875 though you'd have to spread out a bit, and SK166887 if its not too windy or cold

Keep your eyes out for good spots. The weathers going to be a big unknown at that time of year, so i may suggest we meet at a pub somewhere and then choose a bivi spot on the night dpending on what conditions are and if we can get away with something with a view or need somewhere secluded.
People can devise there own way to the pub depending on fitness/mileage.

That said, I doubt I'd be able to make the 14th/15th as I have a MSc coursework deadline due in the following week and as I'm at work during the week I have to do this at weekend...

EDIT: Going to do the Wales one instead as it's far easier for me from the midlands.

Very much looking forward to this. Think I'm going to use it as an overnighter for a lap of lord of the loops. Probably going to start somewhere near chinley or new mills station. Which puts the potential bivi sites at about half way.

First post on forum so..hello, I would like to take part in this and it would be good if you will post a GR nearer the time as I am a slowcoach and would be able to "catch up" if I am left struggling in the distance lol.

Coming from Dukinfield so would probably catch train to Bamford...not that fit yet! :)

I wrongly thought bivvi in peaks would be a difficult thing to 'get away' with especially around reservoir.

any other areas that can be shared as pretty hassle free stops? :)
