Volunteer tandem riding for the blind

Headline : we always need more pilots.

I volunteer and ride tandems for two charities for blind and partially sighted and we are always in need of new pilots. If you think you might be interested please either message me or contact them or others directly.

No tandem experience is needed as you would be trained. Off road riders tend to make great tandem pilots apparently because of our great bike handling skills!

The two charities I am involved with are very different.

Bury Tandem club, based in Bury, Manchester, do day rides every Sunday, typically up 40-50 miles. I try and ride with them once a month.

Vision of Adventure, based near Staveley do residential stays for 2 or 3 days riding. Pilots stay and eat for free just paying for café stops and travel. They also do walking, open water swimming, kayaking, climbing and even pot holing. Amazing.

I don't have a website for vision of Adventure, here is a FB link.

But I can pass on an email address if you are interested.

I find both extremely rewarding and great fun.

I've contacted the Tandem Club at disabilities@tandem-club.org.uk to ask about groups closer to me. Information online seems to be patchy at best, perhaps it's all moved to Facebook (but I don't use Facebook so it's lost to me).

Manchester & the Lakes would be a bit far for me to travel as I live in Kent, but this looks like the kind of thing that would be a good use of my time.
