I am heading to Portugal for a trip. Then Spain and maybe across to Africa.
Friends are joking with me that I won't get into Spain. On Monday the regulations will be stepped up/enforced.
I laughed at this as it was intended to stop 'bums' coming in. But Spain is becoming very anti-tourist (now that they have made a lot of money from them).


I will be on a bike, wild camping, no return ticket and will not be bringing my bank statements.
Insurance?

Days of freedom over? Should I just pay £1500 (+500 single occupant charge) for a 10 day organized trip? Is that allowed on here?

It is not about open borders and I won't get asked. It is about not being welcome anymore.

Any views on this?

There aren't any checks between Portugal and Spain, so if you start there then you won't have to provide the info.

I've spent quite a lot of time in Spain this year and last and haven't found any anti-tourist sentiment. I always felt welcomed.
Saying that, I wasn't in what would be considered "tourist" areas - camping in a van or with my motorbike in the Picos, Basque Country and Pyrenees.

It really is a middle finger towards tourists.

These places always make me laugh; they construct an entire infrastructure and economy designed to attract tourists then act surprised and complain when they attract a lot of.... tourists.

I visited Zante in the late '80's before it got commercialised, and the locals had just started a frenzy of building to attract tourists. At that time it was still very quiet. The beaches where the turtles laid their eggs were getting turned over to beachgoers and the locals really didn't gaf. A few years ago I watched a program about the island, and the locals were complaining about how tourists had ruined their island..

Sort out how your getting home and just pay the extra for a flexible booking

Insurance, not expensive, just cough up rather than relying on a "go fund me" to get home after an accident and to pay the medical bills (we still the medical card IIRC for EU)

Book a nights stay somewhere for the first night

It's pretty obvious why they are doing this, just play the game as you aren't the target of the rules

If I've read your post correctly, you're flying to Portugal then riding from Portugal into Spain then booking a ferry across to Morocco, riding around a bit then flying back to the UK. You'll have zero issues with any of that. There's no border checks between Portugal and Spain, and you'd be incredibly unlucky to get issues on the ferry to Morocco. Unsurprisingly no-one is interested in setting up checks specifically for cyclists on the hundreds of lanes and trails that criss cross the border.

The few times I travelled in/to countries where one doesn't feel very or at all welcomed by the government, the locals will quickly offer a very different perspective.
