Are there any bargains around for hardtails up to £1k? Something appropriate for bikepacking of course.

something from Cube would be my choice.
i am trying to sell my Fatbike, and this is gonna be my purchase.
Cube offer far more for the money, than fashionable names/niches.

Agree. My girlfriend has a Cube full susser and it's a very good bike. Frame is well made, good balance of strength:weight. Good choice of componentry (except perhaps the dropper and it's lever) and is priced extremely competitive.

Geo may be bit outdated, but that's just to bother the fussy buggers.

I'm going to ask a stupid question... what makes that bike mote XC? I assume that means cross country? Sorry I'm not familiar with the terminology really so not sure if I'd want more or less XC.

Geometry basically. This is a 2015 frame so none of the modern long / low / slack trail bike angles.

Calibre Line hardtails (from Go Outdoors) in 27.5 or 29 are highly regarded value bike, though the 29er is £1100 with members card currently. Also, nothing wrong with a voodoo Bizango or Boardman 29er from Halfords - they tend to have pretty good specs for the price.

Planet X bootzipper is a penny short of £765 (although you do say hardtail which this isn’t…!)

Specialized are off loading a lot of their 2024 models at 50% off through dealers. Not sure whether there's anything that fits the bill, but worth a look?
