Absolutely. They are lovely creatures and it is unthinkable that some could consider turning them into muffs

There seems to be a well organised guerrilla group helping with reintroductions hence beavers being found in places where they haven't been officially reintroduced

As you were connected to the mainland for 6000 years after the ice sheets retreated it may be a fair assumption that at the time of separation beavers were on the island, how long they lasted is a different question

Salt Lake City....although it has been known that one can acquire more than a pair, if required, to get the job done.

We are about to get a pair in Wyre Forest. Large enclosure is nearly finished. Dont think they'll stop the Severn flooding though! Not sure how safe they will be either as they are on a busy public route, hope they put some cameras up.

There's a industry canal behind our house (more like a small stream) which went through a renaturation project. Once fish were introduced the beavers came by themselves and now there's a family. Quite amazing what they do.
If you ever hear a clapping sound near the water, take a good look - it may well be a beaver.

On the other side of the house is a (usually) small river - (it's called the Emme) which they most likely use to explore new territories.

The wording on the website almost admits it's a stretch (reading between the lines) and it also states there is evidence for them on the mainland at the locations they list but none for here. The consultation was meant to be completed and the introduction was supposed to be 2023. This has probably been pushed back because of covid.

As there are already issues with flooding upstream of the location which results in a road closure so any further restrictions to flow seem unwise. The area is also of importance for water vole so that might be an issue, the increased access by wardens to check on the beavers and altering water levels.

I'm not sure we need them here, we have plenty of endangered species to care for without introducing additional species. I'm also not overly enamored by the way the organisation proposing them operates.
