Toptip? Using Bikehike.co.uk in France

Those kind folks in the Dordogne-Perigord local authorities have put together a map of suggested VTT routes.

It's been a doddle transferring these routes to .GPX using BikeHike.co.uk as virtually all of the "bridleways" (for want of a better term as I don't think the French are as fussy about how/who uses the paths) are on Google maps so you can just "click to follow road" and throw together a GPX track in no time. 8-)

Sorry...having a senior moment...where are the original tracks? Only on GoogleEarth (follow the trail if you can see it on the sat pic) or as a separate KML layer?

Bikehike has been bookmarked!

PS Hello to a fellow ferret fan!

The offroad paths/tracks/trails etc are on regular google maps. I'm in Belves, East of Bergerac if you want to have a look. Google just treats them like Tarmac roads so when clicking a route it "snaps" to the trails. :)

Alas, my ferrets aren't with me. My poor sister is looking after them.

Ah so they are...wondered what all the "roads" through the woods were :) I was never sure on the whole French take on RoW.

The last time I was stealth camping...and drinking brandy at 11am but that is another story!

Thanks for the heads up...might pencil that in as a trip for next year

My French isn't great but I think there is a leaflet of routes for 4 different sections of Aquitaine. I'm going to try and drop by the tourist info place to see if I can get the whole set.

Like with George Bush I'd misunderestimated ;) the Dordogne tourist board, not just four leaflets but loads. No need to buy them as they can be had as PDF's from the web, just click on the hiker icon near where you want to ride.
