Wanted - 27.5+ or 29+

I’ve given up my job and planning on heading out to cycle the Baja divide at end of January. However, I currently don’t have any bike that can take a bigger than a 2.25 tyre which is not ideal for the desert.

I am looking for:
a 27.5+ rolling chassis
Or a 29+ frame/frameset (I have wheels I could make work)

I’m not flush with money at the moment so would happily consider any older or well worn frames, anything like a surly bridge club, stooge, singular rooster etc

I’m 5’8 and based in Cambridge but do travel around a lot.

Thanks for any help
Steve

Can't help I'm afraid, but worth looking out for an old Longitude or similar Genesis. Should be a fair bit cheaper than the likes of Surly and Stooge, but nice enough and will do the same job.

Good call BTW :-bd

Also look out for Sonder Frontiers, mine rode well on 27.5 x 3.0

Another budget option might be the Pinnacle Ramin 3+?
Never had one, but I've heard good things.

If the Trek doesn't suit (these are good things so worth a punt!) it's worth keeping an eye on the bay and gumtree as there have been some bargain Krampus's in recent months on both.

Hi Steve

Good luck with the ride, check out the stooge I have had two and love them, I have the mk4 if you would like to test ride it before buying. In the north west area if that's any good to you. I have owned a rooster. It was good but the stooge is so much more capable at rocky bits and down hill. It's like a trail bike but it can munch up the miles also. Very fast on chronicles if you can find them.

Great stuff you will love it. Need to get the bag that fits the top tube. The mk4 is ace.

Let me know if you post a blog for your trip.

Enjoy

Excellent choice - they're amazing bikes. As squibjib said, get the bag for it - mine is from beerbabe and is really good, but others may do similar.
