Manchester way?

Hello all, due to the upcoming train strikes I will be finding myself at a loose end. I need to drive my eldest and a mate up to Manchester to go to a gig, leaving me with an opportunity for a cheeky short overnighter. Does anyone have any recommendations for a shortish pootle overnighter in the local area, happy to drive to the peaks. Any ideas welcome, ta, Rob.

Macclesfield Forest, Axe Edge, top end of River Dove, all excellent places, and are nearest bit of the Peaks to SE Manchester if you're coming from the south..... happy provide details....

Hello, I’ve only just seen this, sorry I didn’t reply sooner. Unfortunately that weekend I got struck down by an absolutely horrendous virus. My wife took my lad and stayed in a very posh hotel instead. I intend to go this year instead. The route looks just my kind of trip, cheers!
