WANTED - UNDERQUILT FOR HAMMOCK

Post by sean_iow »

I slept in my hammock at the weekend and unlike the previous occasion I didn't end up with motion sickness so maybe I've got used to it.

Using a mat as the lower insulation is a faff and I feel like I'm missing out on some of the comfort a hammock should provide so looking for an underquilt. I'll be carrying it on the bike and only really plan to use it in summer(ish) so looking for something down and around 2 season. Anyone got anything unused in cupboard?

Can’t help you with a quilt but Absolute Snow have a hammock specific pad for sale at present with a big discount. Can’t remember what brand but it’s something like £110 down from £180

I've been using the Alpkit Mora one. It's synthetic, but it is cheap - about £40 I think.
May not pack down small enough for you though

Sean, the only one I can think of that fits your criteria and is relatively easy to get hold of is the Cumulus Selva 120. Other than that it's the Stateside manufacturers or synthetic, i.e. the Alpkit Mora or similar. Or make your own.

Cheers guys. I'd been looking on eBay and FB marketplace and noticed they don't seem to come up for sale very often/at all.

Perhaps I'll have a look at synthetic. I've got an old synthetic sleeping bag that might be a good basis for a myog one as a trial.

I’ve used an Alpkit down quilt for this. Not perfect but fine for summer and packs down small.

Henge Hammocks have got a few Cocoon down UQs available

You've just missed the Hammock Gear (US) sale where they had some decent offers on, I've been very happy with my 2013 purchases

I've been trying to work out how to make one from a Snugpack Jungle Blanket. So far the project is still in the chin-scratching phase.

That's spooky, I went to my local Mountain Warehouse today to see if they had one, sadly not, but I might order one to see what it's like in the flesh.

Cheap-ish and not tooooo heavy so could be something to try and/or base of a MYOG.

Although reading the description this had me scratching my head:
Drawstring - Secure your belongings in place, can also help to compress the contents if you've over packed
