An unusual Lunar Solo pitch.

Post by Richpips »

Last week I stayed at the Loch Achray campsite.

On arrival, I was told that I'd have to pitch my tent on a platform with chains. Those of you who have Lunar solos know that pitching is a fairly precise thing. At first I was stumped. The chains were in the wrong place, and too long. It took a fair while to work out tactics to join the guys to the chains. I'm grateful there were no midges and it wasn't raining. Anyways eventually I got the tent pitched, and the pitch was bomber :-bd

Worth mentioning is that the new SilPoly Lunar Solos stretch very little once damp in comparison to the previous SilNylon version.

Oh, and it's a nice little campsite if you are in the area.

How odd... I can see that set up being problematic for quite a few tents...
Is that the campsite by the forest drive?

Insulated pitches - I wonder what the R value is

A guide for how to use the chains is on their site : https://www.lochlomond-trossachs.org/wp ... -hooks.pdf

It might not work or it might just be an incredibly smart-arse thing to say after the event

Push pegging loop of guy line through a chain link, larks foot onto a peg. Should hold the peg if tension is off/on plus minimal changes to or knots in guy lines.

10/10 for the pitch in the end though :-bd

what is the point of those platforms?
Is it some sort of all weather pitching option?

Platform looks like a good idea on a permanent site. No more dead grass patches and swaps around tent doors.
Ace idea.

Also allows for a perfectly flat pitch
