Suggest a jacket with good discount?

Post by redefined_cycles »

Something similar in fitting to a Rab Microlight but a heavier weight for deeper winter. With a hood. Down or synthetic but main thing is the heavy discount aswell (confliction, sorry).

Anyone seen anything?

Montane Prism? Sport Shoes had them the other week. However, it'll be way heavier than a Microlight and much bulkier but jackets are very much horses for courses.

If the main thing is heavy discount, I'd suggest applying Martin Lewis' rule first.
Martin's Black Friday shopping memo

If you were going to buy it anyway and it is half price, you've saved 50%.

If you weren't going to buy it, but do cos it's half price, you've wasted 100%.

That ^ is a very good rule. :-bd

What is it you want it for Shaf? Wearing in camp, carrying as a 'just in case' or wearing while watching telly to save turning on the heating.

Basically Stu, I'm always trying to prove to my oldest standing mates (and others) the 'buy quality, buy once'. So always try to get em used tp se of the kit we use. A couple months ago I gifted my Rab Micro to my Quran teacher. Lad never charges me for always bugging him with lots of questions etc.

Anyway, he really liked the ML and was reall appreciative of it. It's probably about 7 or 9 years old now so on its last legs. It occurred to me yesterday that I may be able to find a hooded and heavier version for him as an early eid gift/deep winter kit

Hence thought I'd ask on here. Naturally, I've not told the wife. But, he is worth it :-bd

That has active insulation, it's designed to be worn on the move. You want the non active version for static use. Active is not as warm but much more breathable, which is great while in motion but not in camp or stopped

It'll still be warm, but weight for weight not as warm as normal non-active insulation

Thanks Ben. After I'd replied I realised that this was almost the perfect thing for him as it's what I'd been seeking out previously. Something that he can walk hard with but not become a sweaty mess.

Looking forward to it and a bit jealous too :-bd
