A number of years ago I adopted a policy of not riding down anything I couldn't ride up. I do break this 'rule' from time to time (and going SS has changed things somewhat) but it's not a bad way of preventing yourself from doing something stupid.

Not a bad rule for bikepacking but unlikely to adopt it on my FS bike.

I’ve ridden that trail downhill. I love a bit of climbing but that challenge can get in the sea. The analogy is going out for a fine dining meal and stuffing it up your a$$

Yes... Thanks Phil. I've just watched the whole thing (thankfully I don't have to read that thesis that Mears wrote in the article. Doubt I could clear that 7 miles of the Lakea commute but...

From about halfway I've started thinking about the 3 rocky climbs up Wessenden Head. Last time I managed to ride em all was about 20 years ago and they've defraded since. I'm gonna make it my little mission to clear em in one go

There is also the (I call it) miserable section of the NorthPeaks100. Think the farmers even sowed some of them thorny things to deter walkers/bikers and (kinda) removed the signposts stating it's a BW. Super tough and I imagine Karl has ridden it all. If I manage to ride up the Wessenden Head section then I'll set my attempts at that.

This (the happiest bit of that route) which is easily doable. Just need to find a solid table to start pretending I'm Danny Mac and jumping up on...


Then this (the most miserable section of the loop) which looks easy on paper but I've always looked atit as impossible. Wonder if Karl or Bob rode up it!

Thanks again for sharing Stu. I always thought people just manage these things first or second time... That I'm the only weakling that keeps attempting (though much much easier) rocky climbs until I get em!
