I need to free up some space in the garage and this will mean reorganising how I store the bikes.
Is hanging the bikes by front wheels ok? Doesn't affect the rim? Hydraulic brakes etc ? Is hanging by the rear wheel better?

All mine are hung by wheels, I normally top and tail them to avoid bar clashes.
The only one that is always hung by the rear wheel though has a carbon fork.
Not had any issues after 15 years other than bubbles migrating through the hydraulic brake systems but that sorts itself out with a few pumps of the lever and I'm good to go.

The only issue I have is getting in utterly b0ll0xd and unable to lift the bike up.

Hanging's too good for 'em etc.

In theory, if you hang them by the front wheel then any air in the brake system will find its way into the master cylinder rather than the caliper ... probably doesn't make much difference in real life.

Mine are all hung up. Top and tailed. Been doing that for 20 years and never had any problems. In theory, suspension forks are better stored axle-high as the seals stay wet. I'm not sure it makes any difference in practice, unless they are being stored for a very long time.

Some hydraulic brake systems don't like it. My Shimanos have always been ok as they are fully sealed (and properly bled).

I note Steady racks are not mentioned. thses are wall mounted rack that fold down from the wall in a L shape. the bike is pivoted on the back wheel an the front wheel rolls over and drops into the base loop of the 'L'. as the bracket is hinged and the rear wheel is an inch or so off the floor. the rack can the be pivoted side ways. the rear wheel in a notch block., located loosely.
so takes up less room or is less likely to be bash by accident.
