To be fair, anyone wearing a set of clobber like that is a fool so lighting the fire outside the bothy is in character. The dug looks well p*ssed off

If this was a commercial photo shoot, should they have had to have permission for it and the fire from the MBA?

Bothy nor the land it's on belong to the MBA. They've every right to be there and take pictures - it's the fire I object to especially given that it was done for commercial reasons.

Yup, with you on that. By lighting the fire, photographing and publishing it, there are some that will see this as an acceptable activity.

We've discussed this scenario quite a few times over the years haven't we (rightly). I would wager that it's actually impossible for the marketing departments of these outfits to take a photograph without a fire in it, never mind publish one. It doesn't cross their minds not to have a conflagration in the mix. It's the law.

The only curiosity for me with this photo is that try as I might I can't see the f'in enormous axe in it. It must be there somewhere.

Absolutely Rob. It's simply marketing using the lowest common denominator which they believe holds the greatest appeal.

Maybe he's left the axe by the fire Reg. I also can't figure out why he seems to have a stick wedged up his arse? Maybe something to do with the dog looking fed up?

What's a bit ironic is there's a perfectly serviceable fireplace inside.

Nice dog that. Although (s)he does look really tee'd off with the whole proceedings. "I'm just going to gaze into the distance and pretend I'm not here".

For a moment there I thought they'd built the fire on a frozen lake. Darwin Award.....

I dare that guy to wear that coat into any pub in Mid Wales (*).

I think they must have used the size guide to light the fire in that last one. Twats.

Moving away from the fire for a moment, were they using the bothy for a fancy dress party that day?

I'm wondering how many fires will be going on the forthcoming Guinness book of records mass bivi event tomorrow? I shudder to think.

It's great to chuck out some insults, but do you even know if it is actually a fire in that picture? I have googled for others, but I can't see any fire, happy to stand corrected if there is.

It could just be some kind of smoke pellets but that's irrelevant as it's the image of camp fires which is being portrayed and will be copied.

I have nothing really constructive to add to this (but that has never stopped me before).

Two things this reminds me of:
a) that NTNoCN sketch - come home to a real fire, buy a cottage in Wales
And
b) those clothes are very Combat Rock era. 40-odd years ago idve been all over that like a tramp on chips! However, I have grown up (and out) since and in 2022, hmm, less so.... even the dog has the sense to be embarrassed.

Didn’t the Cotic Cascade video have a fire on the beach? Was highly surprised to see them so wide of the mark (bearing in mind their grassroots support, not least on here).
