I know these are great straps widely used and get great reviews but mine is showing signs of cracking and fear it is likely to snap. Anyone else find this or suggest an alternative

I'm no materials scientist, but I'd have thought this type of cracking / splitting is going to be a problem with anything made of silicone / rubber eventually, just because of the material.

Not exactly the same, but I find double sided velcro, of the type Alpkit and a few others distribute with their bike bags works well to strap things. You can buy it in reels, and its a fairly strong hold (with enough overlap, relatively chep and long lasting. Obviously doesn't have that elasticity of Voile, so not a direct replacement, but works for a reasonable number of scenarios and is lighter than Voile.

So maybe a mix of both - Voile or the knockoff brands where you need that elasticity, but velcro where you don't?

I like Voile straps but for loads of stuff a toe strap works pretty well. The non leather ones are pretty cheap.

Polaris now do the Fixie velcro straps in a few sizes. I've been using the short ones for years with no problems and recently bought some of the long ones.

I've used the version with G Buckles to strap drybags to my rack.

My favourite straps (yes, I've thought about it enough to have favourites) are the ones that come with Alpkit dry-bags (20mm webbing, side release buckle) but I think you can buy them separately. I have a pair of Voile straps but tend to use these instead in most cases.

I have a couple of what I think are Hypalon straps (very slightly stretchy rubber) with a locking buckle on them from a Restrap Tech bag and they're also great. The ones I have are quite short but if you can find them in longer and maybe heavier duty, would be an ideal Voile strap replacement.

Edi: seems the Restrap ones are available in longer lengths: https://restrap.com/products/fast-strap ... 0275506291
And there's these which are even longer, and look thicker: https://www.silverfish-uk.com/products/ ... alon-Strap

Had the same issue in the past with Voile straps.

I'm yet to try using some crampon straps. Not sure if they would handle lots of movement on rough ground......only one way to find out
