I'm a tad confused what BG Duro is

I wonder if anyone will do both?

Had a flick through the website.
Got bored
That’s a lot of gravel bikes.
I am clearly not the target market. :-bd

I'm quite excited about this now, after seeing that it literally goes past my house!
So I'll be dot watching and trying to get some pictures.
It's a fairly steep downhill, any tips here from any photographers among you? Point uphill, side on, film rather than still, or find some flatter ground???

Throw 2lb of 3" nails into road. Position yourself 100 yds downhill. Wait.

May not be necessary on the day, just heard they will be digging up the drains...

Look for the light and watch where it falls. Get yourself positioned to catch the riders in that spot. Think about what is going on in the background. Also get down low and close.

I was thinking I might ride up to QECP and wave some riders past but I completely forgot about it and they've all since gone through. The group is really spread out isn't it?

Just waved at Alun from on here. Not brave enough to tell "Boner" at him - he had another rider with him. Plus, what would the neighbours think?!? :o

Flying down the hill and smiling :-bd

I see Josh Ibbett has scratched. Anyone know the reason why?

His Instagram says he's tired, big house move a few days before the start has left him worn out.

Will be interesting to see whether it will be a MTB or gravel bike that takes first place. A experienced ultra rider I know pulled out after taking quite a battering on his gravel bike with 45mm tyres. Said he had wished he had taken a MTB.
First time dot watching and very interesting 😁

I noticed Josh's bike had MTB sized tyres and a suspension fork, it was only some flat bars away from being a 29er hardtail.

His gravel bike was more of a MTB than my MTB is  mines got smaller tyres and a rigid fork.

Yes I noticed that and thought the same...

Was that Shawn by any chance? I talked to him briefly after he'd just come off the gap, in 4th place, and he said he was thinking of scratching, because he felt he was on the wrong bike, and wished he'd taken a mountain bike.

Unless the organisers expressly stated it was a 'Gravel' event, then I'm wondering why anyone would choose such a thing over a mountainbike? I appreciate the lines are blurred (Josh's bike is an example of that) but it's a long way, the going will often be slow, so comfort is king surely?

Is it an example of people being blindly lead by the media / industry / social media?

Lachlan won the first one on a gravel bike - I suspect it will still be the FKT

PS this place keeps telling me that the wrong bike /making it harder can be fun

Is the GB Divide more off road than the GB Duro? Just wondering if gravel bikes are more suited to the Duro?

Apparently, it was designed to be a gravel bike route.

The routes that have come before the GB Divide were either LEJOG TT routes that follow A-roads/dual carriageways (no thanks), 'traffic-free' routes (think awkward canal paths/cycle lanes), or MTB routes (painfully slow and indirect). We sought to exploit the versatility of gravel bikes by designing a route that links GB's most remote off-road riding via small roads, following the most direct natural line possible.
