What is the minimum gear you would take for 1 night out on a 2 day event?

Kip bag. Bivi bag and tyvek?

Quilt, 3/4 length mat, bivvy bag.

Pretty much.

* superlight Exped mat (forget the model name)
* really lightweight quilt that's a combo of down centre and synthetic insulated sides (again, brand unknown because it was a cottage-made one, secondhand from someone on here many moons ago)
* Borah gear "bivi" bag, for insect / slug / dew etc, it's not waterproof

I'd probably treat myself to a pillow though that's more personal / comfort than necessity (YMMV).

Would be the same as a local bivi - mat, quilt, bivi, pillow. Usually all rolled up into one bedroll

Assuming you mean "sleeping gear" only - then bag/quilt, mat, pillowpump

+ Joe Bam Toothbrush and "paste tablets". One has to maintain some standards or where will it all end eh?
+ earplugs
+ bogroll
+ shelter peg as poo-trowel

TBH I'd probably the same I'd take for a 3-4 nighter without extra clothes and food. Are you cooking/boiling water or eating dinner/brekky at pubs and cafe?

If it's just a trip to the woods I'd have a hammock and top quilt. If it was coldish I'd have an underquilt and if there was a chance of rain I'd have a tarp and that would do it. Still take a brew kit for the morning though.

EDIT: per Reg's comment, yeah, poo trowel and poo paper totes

I find the title of this thread quite off-putting. It reminds me to much of 80’s box office hit ‘Pretty Woman’….

Foil blanket. But it’s very weather dependant is the answer to that question

Same as

Bivvy, may and quilt, and a minimal brew kit, I can’t function without coffee in the morning

For some reason I'd assumed Reg would be on denture tablets

Well last night was: hammock, tarp, quilt and a cheap synthetic throw/blanket as a "mat" - the house is just too hot at the moment to be comfortable at night so headed down the garden :-bd

I was just thinking that back in the late 1970s when me and my mate Warwick invented bikepacking we would strap an army surplus blanket with a bit of food and a small pot wrapped inside to the bars of our BMX bikes. And we'd head out into the wilds of the west of Brisbane and have the same sort of time I have with mates on here. We had a small truckers tarp and odd bits of rope and used branches for poles if we needed them. Water came from the streams we would sometimes catch a few yabbies in before we stuck them in the pot. We were 13 or 14. Just that we took so little and never actually died, despite being eating by leaches, of course.

This also reminds me of a number of nights out in Longton, about 1991-92  Live, Love, Dance (Gurn)

Moonlite Bivi bag/bag cover, liner and 3/4 Neoair for a summer SS S24O ride. ProPlus instead of coffee kit, just water and snacks for breakfast then. Would only be kipping lightly for ~4hrs so it's good to go light.
