Lachlan is doing a self supported entire tour route [ no transport between stages ] in an attempt to finish before the peleton
While the 2021 Tour peloton will race 3,383km, Morton’s alternative Tour (or Alt Tour) will cover 5,510km and is scheduled to take in 65,500 metres of climbing. He is likely to also ride on rest days,
Apparently you can follow it on dotwatchers but I cannot find this - if anyone has better google fu than me please post up a link

Just reading the article.

Morton, who combines World Tour road racing with competing in gravel and endurance racing, says his solo unassisted ride will be an attempt to reconnect with the original spirit of the Tour, in which riders raced through the night, slept rough in fields and ditches and ate where and when they could.

It will never catch on.

I don’t know the fella, but he does seem to embrace this cycling lark

So will he do it? He's got to do a complete Tour of France in 21 days including riding an 'etape de tour' each day. Tough gig.

There’s a 500+ km transition from the Saturday stage to the finale in Paris so I’m guessing that he’s going to have to be way ahead of the cyclists for most of the attempt.

We were looking at that last night. It should be ok as there is a 30 TT the day before, so he in effect has two days to get there.

Also, there are rest days on the Tour. One assumes Lachlan won't be taking those as rest days.

Looks like he is making good progress. Breakfast in St Brieuc now pressing on.

I love that area of Brittany. Eating Moules-Frites in the sun on the quay in Pampol.
Then on to Ile-du Brehat. Heaven.
It grey and raining right now here in Devon.

He has raised an impressive amount of money for bikes too.
Over £120K so far.

He says in the interview link above he's reckoning on needing two days for around 600k to be at the finish 6 hours ahead.

This is as good thing, fair play to him. He has also done one of those 'riding fixed up a mountain with pros' interviews just after he got the everesting record. He totally down plays it and is more interested in telling the interviewer about his bikepacking stuff.

Good thing about doing it his way there will be no muppets at the roadside pushing him off his bike!

He's always seemed like a bloody good egg. His GBDuro video was just great.

I'll be watching with interest. :-bd

For the record in case noone else has mentioned already. When Mike Hall started his TCR it was based on the original self supported style of TDF... So looks like we're finally getting there. Maybe in years to come there will be more to stand up to the challenge of the proper (oroginal) TDF.

I wonder if there is a way to trqck his dot as compared with the peloton (I don't keep up with that as I just think it's rubbish... sorry).

Any input/suggstions appreciated

The peloton's dot is also shown on the map. Lachlan is 01, the peloton is 02. Looks like they better get their skates on!

I think the tracker has thrown a wobbly, he's currently doing 6959 km/h, should be finished by tea time at that rate, with stops of course
