Looking for potential substitutes for the discontinued Maxxis Chronicle. Anyone had any experience of the Vee Tyre Co Trax Fatty? Or any of their other (plus sized) offerings?

My experience is that it’s quite the worst 29x3” tyre I have ever tried.
They were the first tyres I fitted when I built up my Krampus and I thought I’d made a horrible mistake going to plus.
They made the bike feel ‘weird’ - auto over-steering round corners, especially on hard pack or road. Very little grip in any sort of mud.
I cut one up to make a sling to right an apple tree that fell over in my orchard last autumn.
If you want to foot the postage you are welcome to the other one for free.
29+ tyres are pretty hard to find right now as I’m sure you know. Vitoria Bombolino were still knocking about last time I looked. I got a set as spares and they look pretty good but I’ve yet to try them.
I’ve used Surly Dirt Wizards - very burly and grippy. Nice tyre.
Panaracer Fat B Nimble - nice and light with reasonable all round grip but got a big side wall cut on their first outing.
Chronicle’s - great all rounder.
I also have a pair of Bonty XR4 to try which outwardly look very much like the dirt wizards

Definitely very average and only 2.75"
I've got a pair of chronicles on order from the polish place linked in the 29+ thread - no sign of them yet :???: but someone got a pair from them on here....

My Polish Chronicles turned up OK. Took a few weeks like.

I'll echo the auto-steer comment above, one of the worst tyres I've used in that regard. I bought them when they were one of the only 27+ options available in 2015 or 2016.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give it a miss and keep looking for 27.5 alternatives.

Everyone is different as it depends on the trails they ride.

Out of the 3 I've tried they come in, in this order
1) Knards
2) Bombolino
3) Chronicles

But sorry I've never tried Vee Tyre Co Trax Fatty's

Rubbish tyres. The Mezcal that came up on offer recently is much better and sizes up the same, even though it’s nominally a 2.6”.

I have used a 3.25” Vee Trax Bulldozer and it’s alright but I don’t have a fork wide enough for it now. It’s heavy but gets through a lot of stuff.

I've never ridden a Vee tyre that I liked or that didn't have a mind of its own when it came to self-steering*.

(Only tried full-fat and plus tyres - no experience of anything else)

Not tried trax fatty

Have tried

Chronicle, great in dry conditions

Fat b nimble a bit fragile, not tubeless specific and narrower than stated

Nobby NICs 2.6 on arch rims. Liked these a lot.

Want to try DHF 3.0 on the Hugos.
They look a bit grr.
