The Price of Lube

My big bottle of Squirt is running low, it cost me £22. A new one is £40!!!!
Is there anything as good for sensible money?

As I ride locally on the sand, all my bikes (even if they don't go on the sand) get this on them, I've been using it for years and it's brilliant and lasts a very long time too. So I only take a tiny amount of squirt on over night trips.
Works well and saves money (and it's totally different to the normal WD40)
WD-40 Specialist Dry PTFE, around £6 or £7 a tin

I wax my chains its faff but its not that hard to do
tin is about £30 it will last you years and years

I use Purple Extreme - sparingly. A bottle lasts ages so I've not really considered it costly.
My main experience of working in a bike shop is that folk apply far too much lube.

I balked at the cost of squirt so I've been using finish lines dry wax. Its thinner so seems to get into the chain rollers better, and doesn't leave thick residue on chainring but doesn't survive wet riding for as long....

Looks potentially good, how does it cope with winter riding?

I’m also using Finish Line dry for dry conditions. Seems good, little mess, lasts OK, but it’s so thin that it’s very hard to apply sparingly, so a bottle doesn’t last that long.

Been using Smoove for the last year or two. Impressed with its performance but the price is pretty nuts. Does anyone know if Smoove is compatible with home molten wax method?

Another Smoove user, the last bottle was £14.99 on Amazon. Admittedly not cheap but it works out ok as it lasts ages longer and it’s worth the entry cost just not to have a filthy black chain after one ride.

I use whatever dry chain lube is on offer, or motorbike dry lube which is generally much cheaper

Smoove works well for me on the mtb in all conditions. But on the road bike within a 100 miles it (chain) sounds like squeaky mice. Anyone know what I could be doing wrong. I last cleaned it in petrol... turps.. degreaser and water (in the most approptiate order to make it squeaky clean).

Just checked my Wiggle orders. Two bottles of Purple Extreme ordered in February 2020 at £10.44 each. I'm about 2/3rds through the first bottle.

This stuff decent for road rides Colin?? If so, how many miles between applications (or til the squeaking mice come out to play). Need something for a 210 mile road ride of possibly mixed conditions and a few miles of gravel type stuff. Don't wish to keep stopping to relube (but obviously will stop for other things
)

I use it on all my bikes.
I previously had good results with Pedros Ice Wax on the road bike.
I've only very rarely applied lube during a ride - of any distance.
