Really depends on the cage and what's in them Tony. Most have a weight limit but if ever I use cages, I always try to pack the least weight and most bulk in them. You can sometimes have problems catching them on tight trails and I've found they do a reasonable job as acting as a wind brake.

I have Travers Prongs with the fork mounts but despite having all the kit to mount stuff too them, haven't actually needed to

I always think they looks quite 'expeditiony' and my trips usually involve too many pubs/cafes to be classed as those. Not judging others though :-bd

i was gonna mount a bivi on one side and a kip mat on the other, but had thoughts of em snagging trailside and ripping the mounts out of the carbon.

and the 2 items in a waterproof bag fit under my bars very nicely. i think that is the way to go.

cheers.

I’ve got a pair of their carbon fatbike ones with the 3 threaded mounts on each leg, never had anything come loose using them.

Have you considered the Tailfin S3 rack , does away with the need for an expensive seatpack as you just strap a drybag of your choice to the top and then the struts have bosses for cages or just use voile straps and strap drybags to them.

Am I missing something re the tailfin? It seems to be around £150, which is as much, if not more than most seat packs?!

But I think the Tailfin comes with its own mug hook.

I got to an eye watering £579.00 for the X series with bags and side bags and axle [ non frame mounting ]
For the rack alone I got £279- S series a very reasonable £250 with mounts
WhoTF is paying that for a rack ?
Its the R@pha of racks that
YMMV

Yes. I’ve only ever used them road touring. I’m not a fan of anything on my forks that changes how my wheel steers!
