Well I'm sure you've noticed by now that I'm using pannier bags on my fat bike.
I know there's been some discussion about using them compared to seat pack but heres my take on them if you're interested:

i may have a go with those.
i have been using a carradice saddle bag on my new fargo.
the strap that go''s round the seatpost has rubbed a grove in my thomson seatpost, in about a month use. if i had not taken the bag off today to wash the bike, it would have worn right through the post.

so a little rack and panniers could be the way to go.

It's a shame the Bridge street saddlebags aren't on sale anymore. The bracket wasn't pretty but they stay put without spoiling your post. Would 'copter tape help?

Would 'copter tape help?
possibly. but a carradice bagman support has been ordered now. that will cure it.

If you do decide to fit a rack I can recommend the tortec rack I fitted to mine
https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Tortec-Tour-Ul ... KkQAvD_BwE

Substantially cheaper than the salsa rack at around £25 and only 440g, the trick is to source some alloy 6x14mm spacers, I got them from eBay, they were called ‘bonnet spacers’ and some longer bolts for the top alternator mounts.

I am liking the look of those, I have actually been admiring them on your bike for some time now, I would love a set of the back of my Wednesday, ideal for warm gear and brewkit on my beach rides, better order a Surly rack in.

Nice review Jeff. I have had a pair for a while now which hang nicely over a 14 year old Old Man Mountain rack on one of my bikes. Like you say, they are very easy to put on / take off (and the fold-over clips are holding up well so far) and the stiffener in that inside pocket keeps their shape well. I find that their size controls what you can carry which for me is a plus! I've mostly used for longer cold-weather day rides so far but envisage using them for carrying clothes on bank-card tours as things open up.
Good quality, well designed and a useful size - big enough to be practical but not so big as to be an encumbrance. Like most Revelate kit though, you pay for that quality :-bd

Cheers Jeff, like the look of those. You’re right, packing a pannier is much easier to do, it encourages you to get that extra layer if you’re cold or to get your multi tool out to sort a problem out rather than leaving it and obviously, makes it easier to pack a few tins of beer :-bd

These are all perfectly valid quotes and observations of course, but in the interests of maintaining our image to any casual passers-by please can we move the discussion to the dark area of the site. Shocking example of heresy  .

Just to muddy the waters even more, I get the advantages (and disadvantages) of panniers over bikepacking bags, but what's less clear to me is the advantages of those micro-panniers over a modern carradice style saddle bag on a micro rack or bagman style support.
