whitestone wrote: Thu Mar 25, 2021 4:33 pm Yes, that's the descent on the 300. There's a couple of other descents in the immediate vicinity that are easier to find - you have to just trust that the GPX line will lead you to somewhere you can get down. I think the KOM time was around 3 minutes when I rode it.

You need to have quite a bit in reserve for it, the detritus from the old mining activities that you are riding across is like sharp edged bricks, you really don't want to be falling off!

About 50 seconds into this video is where the usual descent joins the YD300 route. The next 30 seconds are much steeper than it looks. Once you get to just before the cairn it gets much easier. The bit after the building in the video is on the footpath which follows the valley floor, the BW cuts back up a bit higher to follow a wide shelf about halfway up the hillside.

Great video, I'd definitely be walking a lot of not all of that, but still want to go

i have ridden down into gunnerside gill on every track down from the top. the one direct down the middle which is in the YD300 route is the worst of the 3. the best and most fun descent is the footpath which is the one south of the descent on the video. it is a cracking singletrack descent that can be ridden at speed most of the way down. it meets the YD300 track a bit further south. i will be using that way down.

Just entered. Does anyone know if parking available for the duration at the start? I don't use FB so can't check there. Ta.

Hoping to have ridden across from the Welsh coast to East coast in June and fit in the BB winter(!) event route as well as preparation.

There are loads available at the moment (Hotels Combined is good to check).

I'm at The Railway.

There's parking all over Skipton, but yes, there are two areas just around the corner from the start.

One of the parking areas is currently being built on so unlikely to be available!

Fair few spots up and down that road too. Not quite as choice as the little areas, but unlikely to be completely full.

Bunch North of the train line too (less than 5 min cycle to the start).

If Sean signs up we can have a CL300 re-match!

I wanted to tour the route a couple of years back, but my riding buddy had a change of plans that meant we couldn't do the whole thing. I've just revisited the idea, but have tagged on riding to and from the start, which takes the total distance up to 535km.
I am a fool.

I'm very tempted, I'd have to do some training first as not spent enough time on the bike recently. I'd bring the singlespeed just for good measure as well.

Thanks for the parking advice. I cycled through Skipton last year but did not take notice of parking.

I may look into the b&b option as well and get a train up, save on fuel costs (I get free rail travel but rarely an option getting to events)

The one being built on, (actually it more like the builder's cabins and stores and is all fenced off) is the one just as you turn into the lane leading to Stuart's (up and right from "Croc Box" in the above map). The one opposite the turning, on your left before you turn (below the "E" of Engine Shed Lane), is still "open". Next nearest would be on New Carleton Road which is the road you meet going into town from Stuart's when you start the route, i.e. the one that goes over the railway line, turn to the right (south) and the parking is on the left next to the industrial estate.

Not sure what the parking situation is like at the nearby leisure centre but that may be an option.

Everyone's clocked that the 200 is 200 miles (320km), yes?

Oh I'm not saying I've got what it takes to complete it...but a girl can dream, I hope that I'll get plenty of training in by then, and I'm just going to give it a go and see what happens...If nothing else it'll be a nice mini holiday and a chance to maybe met some boners...

Hmm, sorry if I came across as casting nasturtiums...
My thinking was that (at least one) previous editions of the YD200 were a) off road, and b) 200km.

Yeah, there was a YD200 that was off-road.

Not at all. It would be an easy mistake to make,,,, best not to have a nasty surprise on the day
