Road bar mounted friction shifter?

Hi,

Does this exist? A friction shifter, either with index mode or just friction with enough throw to operate an 11 speed mtb or road mech and a clamp that fits on a 31.8 road bar flat at the top?

Just a little something I am mucking about with

Iā€™m sure microshift will do something.

Microshift make a lovely shifter, but its on a 22.2 clamp.

I wonder if I can swap the clamp to a 31,8 somewhere

Find a mtb shifter that is removable from the original clamp, and adapt onto a correct size clamp...maybe šŸ˜

I used a band on front mech hanger as the clamp

for example

https://www.tredz.co.uk/.M-Part-Front-D ... _45217.htm

they can be had cheaper but do size at 31.8 so a perfect fit
Mine was used for a SRAM X0 left hand shifter and did not require any bodging [ not much lever clearance mind]

I'll have a think about that clamp ta.

Pauls / Microshift look nice, but at 200 quid (more or less) for a shifter, I may as well buy some Apex kit. The idea is that its cheap cheap. Along with easy and simple to use.

Not cheap but you could possibly mount standard bar end shifters with friction mode to these mounts
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares ... ion-black/
But shifting across an 11 speed cassette in friction mode would maybe be a bit finicky.

@10:26 these guys mounted an oldie clamp on the handlebars, much like the above suggestions.
