Sorry to duplicate, but the landscape has changed recently.
I have mullered a rim recently and need to replace it.
Whats your rim of choice in the following spec.
29er
27 to 30mm wide internal
Alloy 32 hole or Carbon 32 or 28 hole
I have a wheel with a Funn Works Atmosphere 28XL rim, which isnt doing anything wrong. I would buy one, but they are in Germany and I cant buy one.
I also have some lightbicycle carbon rims 30mm internal on my other bike which have been super for over 5 years. I like these, obviously there is a wait time for such goodness...
Before I order from China, am I missing anything?
What Rim at 27 - 30 mm wide?

Kinlin TL-29 is a good budget option. You may know it better as the Halo Vapour 35 or the Hunt Trailwide.

+1 for Kinlin TL-29

Seems a bit hefty / overkill on the beefy front?

Seemed lighter than most of the Mavic/DT options (without getting super spendy) when I was looking. I wouldn't be surprised if carbon saved a few grams though.

That’s good to know. I was just about to get some Vapour 35 rims and the Kinlins are almost half the price
If you are going through hell, keep going.

Re: What Rim at 27 - 30 mm wide?
I dont think the weight is too bad
TL-29: 535gm
Race face Arc (new Asym): 525 gms
WTB KOM lite i29: 517gms
DT Swiss XM481: 525gms
Stans Mk3: 527gms (do they still all crack at the nipple holes?)
So they are all much of a muchness. The TL-29 has the advantage of having eyelets so is a bit more resistant to cracking than the others.
Also with a 30mm rim you are going to run a wider tyre which can easily weigh 750-950gms which makes a few grams variation in rim largely irrelevent. I have had mine for nearly 2 years and been very pleased. I also have a wheel built onto an XM481, and its excellent, but its twice the price of a TL-29.
Obvs Carbon rims are a whole different experience, but I have never tried them!
