Bear Bones Summer Camp -CANCELLED!

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

July 20th/21st will see the first (and who knows maybe only) Summer camp. Hopefully the weekend will be an opportunity to share ideas, learn new skills and improve set-ups (and have a laugh). It's early days yet but I can say that there'll be:

'Tarp School' - down to me
'Bike packing for Bikepacking' - Ian
'Hanging basics' - Taylor

If anyone would like to add their name to the above list and share their skills/experience, just give me a shout.

Besides the 'hints and tips' sessions there'll also be an overnight out in the hills on Sat. Everyone welcome regardless of experience.

More details, etc nearer the time.

Anyone wishing to express an interest in coming please say here.

Gutted, in an attempt to get fit for BB200 I've entered twentyfour12 the following weekend.

would love to come but not sure 2 weekends away one after the other will go down too well.

if I earn enough brownie points on the other hand...

Actually, I just had a thought, that this would be a really good chance to learn communally. If everyone is bringing their bikes, we can all geek up over each others setup and gear, and the overnighter on the hills would be enough to warrant the trip anyway :D

I'm busy trying to think of some skills that I might have to share, but to no avail

If I can get some level of fitness back in time for this, then I might be up for it too. Although I've sold pretty much everything I own bar my sleeping bag recently, so I'll need to sort out replacements...but compared to getting my legs working again, that's a minor issue. :)

I'm not sure I have any skills I can really bring to the table though...but it'll be nice to get a weekend away from the workshop!

Don't put yourself down, being the bike geek that I am I would love to hear about the design of the English..... and have a bit of a drool over it :ugeek:

I really don't see that fitness or lack of it will be an issue for anyone ;)

I would really, really love to do this but will be in Andalucia, Alpujarras trying not to get heatstroke then. If you organise another one, (winter camp?) I would definitely be up for it.

good news... Mrs Barney has given the green light

bad news... When I explained it she said it sounded like some sort of Taliban training camp!

looking forward to learning a lot, I know for a fact that I pack too much with water being the main problem. I always end up carrying some back to the car because I worry that I'll run out.

Had the pass stamped :D . Really didn't think I would as we go on holiday on Monday.

Really appreciate a master class on cooking. Still can't get the hang of cooking effectively on meths or know what I can whip up with a quick shop round a Spar / garage.

Okay, this is still happening so here's a few more details.

•WHEN: Sat/Sun July 20th/21st. Aim to be starting around 10.30 with tea drinking.

•WHERE: Ceulan SY19 7BH - directions can be sent to those who can't find their arse with both hands.

•CAN I COME ?: Yes, can anyone who thinks they'll be coming tell me via email please stuart@bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk

• WHAT: We'll let the weather decide on the actual order of things. The ride might get split into 2 groups depending on numbers but everyone will be at the same overnight spot on the Sat. If you're very good I'm sure no one will object to you pitching up in the WRT parking field on Fri night but remember you'll have to bring everything you need with you. If you fancy it then do the email thing above, it helps me buy enough milk and besides we won't hold you to it.

Any questions then shout up here or email.

I was about to email you Stuart, but there was a couple of reasons why I didn't.

1. I need to build a MTB before this date - shouldn't have been a problem, I have enough spare bits kicking around to cobble something together even if it isn't the full build I had in mind.

but then reason number 2 occurred.

2. My car decided that it needs a new brake master cylinder (problem occurred fortunately in screwfix car park so I popped in to buy tools to free everything up enough so that I could make it back home)..anyway need to see how much a new one of them will cost (I think it's an actual fault, rather than a rebuild kit doing the job) and need to work out if I can afford it this month too

I seem to be full of excuses these days :|
