That looks like the perfect Christmas event for me , cake beer and maybe possibly a little bit of riding but only to fetch more beer :-bd

I’m sure I coined that phrase on twitter years ago claiming to have invented it. But then Jack Thurston pointed me at the Festering Five Hundred

Well they don't seem to want my £1,50 : "postal code is incomplete"? (Not sure why I'm forking £1.50 over to someone I've never heard of though admittedly).

i think it is just as much internerd driven bollox as the strava 500 thing is.

who gives a flying feck if someone wants to or does not want to ride all through xmas.
i will be doing it because i choose to.
i dont want to be stuck in the house watching shyte telly.

and there are no such thing as wasted miles.
get a medical condition that stops you riding all together. then you will soon realise that all riding is bloody good.

Im a bah humbug kind of person, and whilst i like spending time with my family and other important friends, im here to say the Festive 500 is brilliant.
Three yrs ago my girlfriend was struggling with her mental health and as a novice cyclist she decided she would like to do the Festive 500. Normally she would have sat indoors and been glum.
She completed the 500km and entered the competition to describe what you experienced during the event. She felt good about herself.
Well, she won the competition and her prize was a custom Moots ti gravel bike,
She was flown to Colorado, and spent a fortnight in an apartment above the Moots factory. The guys from the factory lent me a bike and took us riding every day. We are lucky enough to call those guys our friends. We have drunk beer with the guys who mitred the tubes and welded the frame.
This experience from start to finish has changed her life and she is now a really committed cyclist and a happier person.
So i find it really hard to criticise what this does for people and what its done for my partner in particular. Im a massive fan of the Festive 500, even though ive never managed to complete it. Lots of the fun is taking part and getting out there.

That is a genuinely lovely story Ian and it really is hard to knock anything that changes someone's life for the better and to such a degree but I will say that, I think this is simply a not too subtle p1ss take that's meant as a bit of fun and perhaps a lighthearted reminder for those amongst us who might take themselves a little too seriously.

I think you should put a claim in for 75p from each badge - except Reg's, he'll have to send you directly from the sound of things.

Ruth has just seen the parody and loves it too!

I guess the key is moderation in all things. Riding bikes is always ace. We have never regretted a ride we have been on, but always regret if we havnt been on one.

Oh. Just tried again and apparently my postcode's OK after all! Quite looking forward to Crimbo now that I've been given permission to do the square root of fark all during the proceedings. I was going to do that anyway but it's nice to have it all above board and validated.

Even better of course, as Stu will attest, is that the event appears to be being held in black and white rather than colour. Far more atmospheric.

(I must say that £1.50 sounds remarkably good value for a woven badge...?)

In all seriousness I wish someone could come up with something less smashing it out of the park than 500km. Aimed at people just to do "some" riding between Xmas and NY and get equal reward rather than pass or fail.

The Festive Five Fotos

The Crimble Cycle Bimble

Santas Six Seven Milers

You get what I mean

I love the idea of doing the Festive 500. I also love the idea of eating chocolate until I vomit, being off sober by 11:37 and watching Home Alone and Die Hard one after the other after the other for the whole festive period (and getting out on the bike when it all gets too much).

It's all good, each to their own etc... but I do think it's good to mock seriousness at every given opportunity

Some days I may do feck all, some days I may try and ride my legs off... 🤷
I confuse myself most days.
