I'm looking for a 750 ml titanium water bottle. It should fit in a standard cage. Screw on cap, well sealed.*

The Internet is awash with stuff from the East but most seem to have added a rubber (anti-slip) ring round the base. I don't want this as I also want the ability to heat it up on a stove. I'm wondering if anyone has (used) something like this and knows whether this ring can be removed and is this likely to be an issue.

* Oh, and cheaper than a £80 Vargo.

I've got a far eastern one Colin. Doesn't have the silicone ring on you mention and is fine for putting directly on a stove. I think it came from Amazon. I'll have a look what make it is.

My newer titanium stuff is from Tomshoo but I notice that the newer versions have the non-slip ring. I would have thought it's just glued on though so should be easy enough to take off.

If not it would burn off pretty quickly

Tomshoo Colin and yes, it does appear that the newer ones have the ring ont' bottom.

If it was simply stuck on the bottom, I'd likely just remove it but it looks like it might be fitted into some sort of groove. I guess it will still come out/off but I wondered about that groove causing some weakness when being heated.

It shouldn't as the groove will be pressed in not machined, so the material thickness will likely be constant throughout the base.

A steel Kleen kanteen does the job fine. Wide neck version is especially good for use as a heating vessel. A standard pot grab works well on the rim.

Iv also boiled water in a kleen kanteen on an open fire and on my stove before with no issues

This won’t work. As he’s aged Colin has developed an almost pathological aversion to any metal that isn’t Titanium.

I’m just waiting for him to try and source replacement panels for his van.
