mini aero bar thingy

I've seen somewhere, a mini aero bar that looks like a little loop clamped either side of the stem and doesn't extend very far at all.
I've seen it in a bike review or bag review I think.

Its really short, not even half as sticky out as an actual aero bar.....

Anyone know what the hell I am talking about?

You can do something similar with a set of old bar ends Dave ... no one will ever know once they're wrapped. :-bd

it was the ride farr, nice one!

Yeah, guess so stu. Though I want it to clamp at the stem at the 31.8mm diameter.

FLV, interested in how you get on if you go for them. I do take the p155 a bit when it comes to aero bars but they make some sense at times. I hacked down an old set of Profile clip-ons to make a really minimal aerobar for the road ride I did across France 2018 (headwinds all day in N France seems normal) but I just couldn't get a 'stubby' set up like this to work - pros may have always used that Spinacci position but it wasn't much use for more than a few miles, to me. It was either full length extensions or not really worth bothering. I didn't use them in the end, just added a section of padding to the tops and rested there holding the bar bag when I thought it'd help.

I did wonder if that would happen....

I admit that whilst I'm all for hand positions, it was more the whole cockpit bag set up I was interested in.

For my drop bar bike, I was considering a full frame bag. It's a big triangle and would afford loads of space.
This would mean moving the bottles to stem bags, but if I put them in front of the bars I hit my knees.

Given that I can carry my 8l dry bag with sleeping bag etc on the front mudguard, I was considering a double stem bag in front of the bars.

I haven't checked the height yet to see if that would even work, but my bars are quite high.

Faffing on really...

Mason also had something similar by Deda on their ISO at one of the bike shows.

I've been pondering the inboard bar ends option. Anyone done this?

Are there any bar ends that have a two bolt clamp which comes apart, I quite fancy putting some on the inner loop of my Confucious bars.

I can only find those which slide on from the end of the bars

There are, but they're quite expensive. They've been discussed on here before but can't remember the name or source, sorry.

I'm seriously considering cutting a section out of the loop of my Confucius bars to enable me to fit normal bar ends. Was going to post to get opinions on this, but you can let me know if it sounds like madness in advance!

Yes, for road touring on an MTB ages ago. It's what got me interested in the H-bars for my SS. Big fan of the position, it's a bit like a road hoods rest point or the thumb-hook grip on an H-bar for climbing. Weight, complexity and value of the position all considered I think it's the best addition to a standard MTB flat bar for long distance use. Not as useful for steep climbing / honking but that's almost a moot point with bars as wide as they usually are now.

Yep. Bought a set of Jones cuts specifically so I could slide bar ends onto the front,

I found the position wasn't quite stretched out enough for me - it was a kind of halfway-aero position and in direct contrast to James  I thought it was a poor compromise. It might just be my weird body shape though - YMMV.

Have you tried the VO Casey's Crazy bars?

Ah, that sounds like the position I got from stubby aero bar experiments mentioned further up, I found that a bit short and not worth it. What I though Colin was referring to was stubby bar ends in-board of the controls of a normal MTB flat bar, I really like that set up as a cruise/hand rest position for an MTB. It's not really an 'aero' or general arm rest position though.

Got it in one. I've just ordered a set to try out.

I’ve got one of the original Farr aero bolt ons if anyone has any questions.

It is no replacement for tt bars but does provide an extra hand position and a nice light mount
