A few weeks back, had a bit of a berry picking spree...made some blackberry whiskey, and some sloe vodka, both of course take a year or so to be ready  , had some vodka left in the bottle, put it at the back of the cupboard and forgot all about it.
Also made some elderberry and pear jam, but got that a bit wrong and it's not set but rather runny, delicious on porridge or yoghurt though.
Anyway, while tidying up yesterday came upon bottle of spare vodka, and the thought popped into my head "I wonder...". Anyway, turns out if you call a runny failed jam a kind of syrup, and mix it with some water, vodka, and this evening also cranberry juice, it is VERY VERY nice :-bd

Had some Wild Child Clique Fiesta biscoff milk stout at the weekend - Very nice on draught and not too sweet at all.

Tonight will be some Yeastie Boys Pot Kettle Black porter, which I've never tried before.

In a similar, but less Sunak related, vein I've just finished a delicious can of Madagaska vanilla stout. Brewer is donkeystone brewery, who I've never heard of, but it was on offer for a bargain £1.79 for a 440ml can in Lidl so I had to buy a couple!

Very nice. It's good to have a few flamingos about the house I always think.

Another Van S for Reginald, predictable as that may be. Can't stand coconut (so am pleased that Bounty bars have been unceremoniously chucked out of Quality Street or Celebrations or whatever they are) and am hoping that all the chocolate and vanilla overpowers it.

Had a Track pale earlier, which I rather decadently put some of into the toad in the hole better I was making. Was ok (the toad in the hole was better than the beer I think).

Tiny Rebel Tiramisu Porter for pudding. Very nice.

Ooh, not seen that - what is it? Looks dark and meaty (like hipster Bovril  ).

A mate of mine is closer friends with one of the guys who started Newbarns. My mate got married last year, and said friend was going to be coming to the stag do, and supplying the beer. Sadly, 'cos covid, it never happened (they got married, but having had the wedding cancelled for a third time, they got bored of organising it, and gave up. Now they're spending a month in Patagonia instead, which to be fair sounds much more exciting.) Where was I? Oh yes, Newbarns... They did a collab with Omnipollo recently - an adjunct free imperial stout. Our local got a cask of it, and it's really impressive how much depth of flavour they've managed to pack into it just by brewing, rather than chucking tons of coffee/vanilla/whatever into it, as seems to be the way these days.

They call it a dark ruby mild, 5.7%. I imagine it's what a Belgian Dubbel brewer would come up with if you asked them to brew a mild. Tis yum.
