Trying to fit a 1 1/8 fork into a Krampus frame, so Surly website says EC44/40 lower cup and ZS44 top cup. So have the required parts but then needed a reducer for the lower cup, so got that. Was checking the reducer on the steerer tube and where the steerer tube joins the fork there is a small ring of metal (about 3-4mm) wider than the steerer tube. Dumb question but does the reducer just get pushed into that

yes.

Latest KM / Krampus forks have a section at the base which tapers for about 30mm. Its harder to see but is there.

The top part of the steerer is 28.6 at whatever tolerance is needed.

The bottom part or 'ring' on older forks will be 30mm

The reducer needs to sit on the 30mm section

EC44/49 are two different sizes. Hopefully you will have an EC44. The hope straight to tapered crown race adaptor (HS136) should drop onto the bottom of the fork steerer. They are very tight though so if you put it in boiling water to expand it first that should help.

Yes typo it’s EC44/40 sorry and cheers for the boiling water tip. I think that’s me sorted now just to get it built.
