you just don't think it's possible for anyone to enjoy riding gravel bikes anywhere.
That is not even close to what I said.
I really was not trying to be controversial with that reply or since.
I am done clarifying (it has not helped ) so misinterpret it as you wish .

Ouch. So I assumed from the email that I and others could view the course but no, as K1100T says, Komoot demands money! Sorry, I should have checked.

I can't make this either now, as I'm working. Been looking forward to it for literally years, but hey ho........
If anyone would like my ticket, it's yours FOC on the understanding that you consume your body weight in pizza and beer at High Paradise and be do your bit to support the event (always assuming that swapping riders doesn't cause Si any more headaches).

Hi all!

Is anyone coming from the south by any chance with free space in your car? Would love to have a lift with from London or some other city that is reachable by train from London on the way to the event. Will contribute for fuel and chatter :-)

Cheers,
Tom

I can download from Komoot. If you (or anyone else) would like me to email the gpx, drop me a PM.
I've just recreated it in RideWithGPS, which was a good exercise in trying to understand the topography... Although I'm not sure what the sections of the route that are dots, rather than a solid line, are supposed to represent...?
The little dots mean that Kamoot cannot find a track, path or road that exists on that section. They are there though, I promise

I've updated the Routes page on the website with the link to Garmin Connect, and will be adding the Viewranger option tonight once I've ploughed through another 500 emails. No need to pay the Kamoot vampires now :-bd

I thought that might be the reason. A bit of judicious use of Satellite view showed some tracks for one bit...

Thanks! 👍

I've ordered a smaller chainring, having seen some of the gradients, I'm not sure it's small enough... 🙈

[edit :found out 11th-12th Sept,

Don't worry about the gradients. Although they are very steep, they are never very long on the moors. And thats what pushing is for. I use a 28/36 double or 32 single on my bikes up there with old 10 speed cassettes and never want for anything smaller.

I don’t know, she can’t allow you one day per year.
Not as of there haven’t been dates before, or, hopefully, dates to follow.

Surely the simple solution is to rent one of the cottages at the overnight camp and she meets you there?
🤣🥳

Or, if she’s a fellow nutter then take her along on the ride.
😂😂

Just joined the forum.
This will be my first event in many years!
Really looking forward to it. Thanks to the organisers for pursuing with this event through very challenging times.

I'll be on my Santa Cruz Tallboy... probably towards the tail end!

Cheers

So will start at the back.

Thank you for the advice and the GPX everyone.
I'll be setting out in 20 minutes and bringing up the rear on a black gravel bike.

Just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to Growler and everyone else who was helping through out the weekend in any capacity. I would never have come to ride my bike in this part of the country if it hadn't been for this event, and that would have been my loss. What a spectacular place.

First job tomorrow is to buy some 650b wheels and the highest volume tyres my frame can fit. Second job, is to buy a larger cassette. Third job, is to sell a kidney to afford it all...

Rather than trying to turn a gravel bike into a mountain bike.

buy a mountain bike and embrace the dark side.

As for larger cassette.
A smaller chainring would be cheaper means to achieve lower gearing without the possible need for a new rear mech.

Thanks si.

The bog at the end was a nice touch. 😂😂

Other than a broken saddle all was well.
Hopefully specialized will replace under warranty.

So you went through that too?! I didn't think many people went there. I managed to find knee-deep + bogs with every step. Had to hurry up to not sink ha! I couldn't believe he put it in on purpose so I tried to find the real path.... it did make me laugh ha!

Managed to somehow miss that. I think we went off track at the end, but I’m rather glad we did

I was following the obvious trail off the moor when my GPS told me to head off into the heather. Couldn't find any sort of path or trail, so to avoid damage *cough*, I stuck to the obvious trail and went through all the ferns. Was there an actual other path off the moor then...?

It was a “path” in the BB200 sense; exists on the map, not on the ground. 😂😂

That section did make the chuckle.

Thank you so much. I'm hoping I get to ride it next year. It would be much easier than the 16 hour days and 540 miles driven in the van over the weekend. I missed the Pizzas and the breakfasts too
