I'm a big fan of pyramid style shelters (or rigging flat tarps in a pyramid shape), that one looks very nice. Similar to a MLD solomid but a bit lighter. Be interesting to read a bit more about it when the English site goes up.

There are also these: http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/produ ... ?PageID=36

Needless to say I bought the heavier version last year  but it is a spacious tent for sitting out bad weather, unlike my Akto.

I like that too. Looks like a good compromise between and tarp and a tent.

After spending my first few nights under a tarp, in good weather Im not convinced my tarp is large enough for bad weather

How did you bicycle it? A frame, lean to?

I still think this is one of the best compromises between the two.

Aframe first night, which would keep the rain off so long as its not too windy i guess.
A frame with one side low the second, made it a very low pitch
Lean to 3rd night, kept some of the wind off but to get out of any rain would have been tricky / Tarp in face

9' x 5.5' should be big enough to set up as a half pyramid. Tend to find it gives you the most useful coverage possible from a small(ish) tarp.

hmm, that looks pretty good. I guess your feet would be touching the tarp at the bottom in order to get your head out of the rain, if its raining!

How long is that pole?
