How about a BB local edition of the comp? What's the most climbing you could do from your front door, sticking to their rules:
" plan a route with the highest elevation gain possible within 50mi/80km without using the same climb more than once."

Just worked out one from home (https://www.strava.com/routes/25068663) 76km with 2098m of climbing and the furthest it gets from home is one bit about 10km away. There are still five climbs I've not been able to fit in

I've just edited it as I realised there's one 200m segment I've done twice. Now shorter and with more ascent!

It's basically one of my training routes on steroids - that route is (only) 30km with 1100m of ascent. We've a lot of hills locally. I reckon doing some of them as down and back I could work something out that might come out higher.

We've already been looking at a day round Cairngorm taking in the descent from Loch Etchachan. That means a return via the Lairig an Laoigh and Bynack Mor. That comes in at 75km and 2350m of ascent, door to door*. It's about 90-95% off-road.

* I wasn't clear if the rules meant returning too.

I knocked up an all road (as in it only contains roads rather than marketing bollox ) route a couple of years ago. 190km and 4700m of ascent. I'll see if I can shorten it but retain the climbing.

If you do your route in miles, you get an extra 472 metres to play with

but today i have ridden a 50 mile route from home with only 2 miles of road, and never further than 10km from home.

Just done another which is around 70% off road and doesn't stray more than about 15km from home. 55km and 2089m of ascent. Don't think I'd want to ride it really.

Suspect Chew will do well at this - Calderdale is always somewhere that springs to mind when these things come up.

Well that's a loop from home. The first and last 12km are pretty much flat but managed 2089m in 79.99km.

Should be able to improve on that without the return trip.

I got 1200m heading west from Ellesmere Port. Hmmm, will head east and take in the small hills that way but hopefully won’t waste half of the distance getting to the hills

Not sure I'm even going to bother trying for the Midlands. Was difficult enough trying to get a 100km AAA (at least 1500m) Audax diy route worked out.

Go wild Colin. I said a linear route is ok purely to enable me to plot a rout withe more than 1000m of ascent

Seems like there is competition potential here from the site itself, no??

Is it of the opinion that this (if it was a local BB competition) route should/could just be made for now and ridden later post 'troubles' situation... Or is it a comp where they wnckurage riders to go ride it now?

Just wondering to see if it can be made to that (ie. A local comptn )
