hiyas

new to tubeless and got a bad thorn puncture. i want to re-gunk my tyre without having to reset the bead,

a cheapo valve core removal tool arrived in the post today but it doesn't fit. it does however fit my other three bikes which are all (non-tubeless) presta valve.

it fitting...

but it not fitting the one i want it to...

it seems the tool is too narrow for the core. do tubeless presta valves have a different size of core or is there something im missing here? anyone any ideas whats going on?

much thanks

Is the one that the tool doesn't fit actually a removable core? Not easy to determine from your shot. Removable cores have a pair of flat sides to allow the tool to fit. Not all presta valves have removable cores.

EDIT : what they said, whilst i was typing, with more words and details

I have the same tool and have at least 5 different variety of tubeless valves .
I have yet to find one it does not fit - and i replace all the gunked up ones with cheapo ones from ebay
The most likely reason is its not a removable valve core- stans for example, on a rim strip, were nt removable [ though mine are quite old

Looking at the picture i am fairly confident its just not a reovable valve
Its just looks round to me

So if the valve is entirley round its not removable
if it has two opposite flat edges it is removable

If it is a removable core and has the flats on it you can use needle nose pliers to unscrew it which solves the immediate problem.

okay that'll be it. i think i just presumed it was removable as it was previously set up tubeless. or maybe i thought that all core's were removable.

so in that case ill have to pop the bead, put in the sealant (might as well clean out the old stuff while im at it) and then re-bead/inflate the tyre?

Seems odd that a tubeless valve doesn't have a removeable core. What a really bad idea.

I'd just top up the sealant, you wouldn't have cleaned out the old if the valve core came out and it's quite a messy job.

Just pop the bead off in one location just enough to get some sealant in and then pump up and reseat.

Just wiait till its gummed up on you then you discover you cannot undo it[ to put moreairin after it sealsthe puncture] and then discover you have to remove the tyre to get the whole rim strip out and then ride with a tube with no rim strip in place- thankfully this was local.
Its a very very stupid idea and I never refitted it.

All mine are removable core now and i assume stans dont do this anymore

Good advice above, my first tubeless setup was with split tubes on rabbit hole style rims. And yes the non removable valves clogged up. Bite the bullet and change the valves, it’ll only come back to haunt you otherwise.
