Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
OBH does not open until March.
Kylesku opens in February.
Lochinver Pie Shop is open.
On the plus side the rather unpleasant lady who dislikes most people including cyclists has moved on and
the OBH are currently looking for a new manager.
Not much open at all, I was up there last week, apparently if you shut for six months they reduce
your business rates by half.
I carried five days of food and was so glad I did, with the food and winter clothing etc. etc. the bike
was a tad heavy.
The weather was excellent though

Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
Has the Overskaig reopened? The other possible option is the hotel at Rosehall but that also might shut through the winter.
It's likely that very few establishments will open through the winter. Some years ago a mate and I stopped at the Sands campsite in Gairloch. Chatting to the owner of the pub he said he only opened Friday to Sunday during winter and that the other two hotels in the village shut for winter, one just served coach tours through summer. The first winter he took over the pub he'd stayed open all week and basically didn't have a single customer Monday to Thursday.
Anyway, good luck Rich. I'm both jealous of you and glad it's not me

The shop at Rosehall was due to re-open again, not sure if it has now but will be by next May

At least you'll not need to carry much water

Rich
It’s cold out there.... especially on the hands....
If nobody else has suggested it yet, I would definitely take pogies....

Good luck Rich
Rode the bottom loop with Postie last month, some snow on the tops & wet+cold feet was the main issue. It also went dark really quickly!

Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
A nightmare day today. Two cancelled trains then a bus ride to Tyndrum. Knackered.
Will most likely leave at 9am after a decent night's sleep and a proper breakfast.

Remember that he'll be "off route" a few times as the trail on Trackleaders is the superceded one and he'll be following the 2020 route.

Looks like he's nearly at Ben Alder Cottage for the first night.
Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
Fingers crossed for him that there's fuel there for the stove & the mouse doesn't chew through any of his kit to get to his food!

I saw somewhere he'd had a fall on some ice. - Fingers crossed, no serious injury.

Hope Rich is ok this morning. He's either having a long lie-in or he forgot to switch the tracker on this morning.
Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
He's probably waiting for sunrise before setting off.

Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
My Spot was rather unreliable last week up in Scotland, large sections didn't register a signal, slightly concerning
when the reason you carry the thing is if something goes wrong !
