One for the HT550 connoisseur.
It's a little over 6 days until December.
I'm hoping for some non life threatening weather.

Good luck
Are you starting on the 1st? I won't tell my boss, I've wasted enough time this year watching events already, I'll just pretend I'm working

I'm watching the forecast. Early December would suit me best though.

Pretty obvious question, but what are you doing for lights?
Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
I've got 2 Maxx-D and a Diablo that all have 36 hour modes. I should scrape thru with those.ScotRoutes wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2019 11:05 pm Pretty obvious question, but what are you doing for lights?

Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
That’s a hell of a challenge Rich
Are you doing the same route as this May ?
How many hours sleep do you have in mind ? 5... or 6... ? So you’ll be riding at least 9 hours in darkness... and that leaves say 8am till 4:15pm in ‘daylight’.... (could be greylight... ).
But I think perhaps a big part of this challenge will be the mental one.... of the darkness. It certainly would be for me.
The logistics of food will be interesting too, unless you’re carrying a fair bit always ‘just in case’.
Are you doing it alone ? (hope Tom’s got a good excuse)
Will be following you (if possible) with interest....
Good luck

Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
4:15 can be a bit of a stretch at the moment, especially on those days it's thick overcast.

I've got a fairly comprehensive plan which I'm keeping to myself for now. That’s a hell of a challenge Rich

Suffice to say there are a number of challenges that you won't get in May.
Tom isn't coming.

Good luck Rich, you're an eejit!
It won't necessarily be any colder or wetter than May, but it will certainly be a lot darker!
I'm guessing the main resupply points that will not exist for a winter attempt will be Oykel Bridge Hotel and Kylesku. That will mean setting off with plenty of food from Contin.

Looking at the forecast I think you've picked the right week this side of NY. The light will be a challenge moreso than when we went in February. But the biggest challenge for me was keeping feet dry as wet feet in those temps is not the greatest experience ever. Good luck! I'm massively offended not to be invited.

OBH is open throughout the winter season. Kylesku is closed though.NewRetroTom wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 1:46 pm Good luck Rich, you're an eejit!

Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
Interesting. That probably means that resupply is not much worse than in May!
All the sporting hotels in the north used to close for the winter, but it seems that more and more stay open now. Kind of surprised that somewhere like the OBH gets enough trade to make it worthwhile.

Re: One for the HT550 connoisseur.
Fishing season is Feb to Sept there I think, so I don't think there would be any anglers. Hind stalking maybe?
