James my mate has up to £1,500 so spend on a gravel bike.

What's out there in the market place at this moment bin time for that budget please.

PS he'd prefer Shimano if possible

Cheers in advance

Arkose or Sonder will likely offer the best vfm and decent resale value.

The latest camino Al has a shimano GRX version which looks great. Great vfm.

Granted it's not Shimano, but then it's not full SRAM either, you can pick up a 2020 Rondo Ruut AL 2 for £1,499. The Sonder Camino Al GRX1 at £1,299 is probably a better proposition though.

You could also get something carbon or even Ti for around budget from PX.

These start at £1400.

I really do not get how that PX can be so so cheap. Is it a case of you get what you pay for is it the bargain it could be ?

Buy stuff straight from a catologue
buy end of lines
buy slight seconds- i assume that is a rumour rather than true.
not have massive QC - tola mate three frames to get one with parallel brake mounts for the rear
Dont bother with customer service to save costs - you tried ringin them ?
Dont worry if the seat post does not quite fit - just reduce the price and call them bargains - was that the London Bike?

I think that is their business model

I heard from an ex-employee they've been known to order a container-load of parts at a certain price, then "re-negotiate"* the deal once said container is half way across the ocean.

*"50% off, or I'm not buying them."

Baggy seatposts were a feature of at least the Titus Firelines. I had one (and then a replacement, pretty hassle free).

It was this or the Ti version that I was looking at for a while. I went with the Ti but I still really like the colour scheme on the steel version.

Regarding On One/Planet X. I bought a lurcher frame from them (carbon 29er) which has been great. It arrived without the drop outs though, so I tweeted Brant and they were in the post that day. That was 5 or 6 years ago though.

Given all the Planet-X / On-One threads on STW, that's appears to still be the way it works today...
