[/b]Never dabbled much in the single speed dept. But maybe it might be a way forward for me. Plan to use the Italian steel (think Passoni) road bike by Bertoletti (he won't be happy) so wanna keep it as clean looking as poss...

So what I needs is:

1 eccentric bottom bracket that can take the my shimano splined roadie crankset (its currently in a road 105 external threaded (british) BB)

2. Single speed hub that fits ibto my quick release (standard road 130mm) axle

3. Rings (suggestions) for the front crankset which is a 7900 but I also have the option of the newer type funny angled 9000 cranks... I'll be taking the bike thats gonna be converted on the steeper hills to work with the highest gear I can ride to determine whats cog ratios is needed

4. Chain (as I imagine I want something thats dedicated SS so it can lock into the teeth a bit better or is it not needed since I'm gonna have everything tight with it being SS??

It doesn't sound to me like your frame has an appropriate BB shell to take an EBB?

I'd just fit a tensioner, try it and see if you like it. SS isn't for everyone.

If you’v Got a PF30 BB frame you could try one of these https://problemsolversbike.com/products ... 46_-_25946

But I’d go for a tensioner if you’re not using a dedicated SS frame.

Use your existing wheel with a conversion kit like this https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/SKOOSSKK/ ... verter-kit

I’ve used standard chainrings and chain for road SS (because it’s what I had) but have used dedicated chainrings for off-road (the On-One steel rings are great). Chain doesn’t matter too much. I’ve used both 1-speed and 9-speed without an issue.
