exmoor bothy?

Post by Kumquat »

Hi
Does anybody know of a basic bothy anywhere on exmoor?
The missus is staying with friends who live in the vicinity.
Thought i might cadge a lift and get a short rde in...
Just the first hazy and vague outlines of a plan forming at the moment.

Think you'd best pack a tent! ;)

An extensive internet search has brought up very little. I've found mention of a tiny disused shepherds hut but no GR or indication of where it is. Also a couple of abandoned farmhouses which are protected and have groups looking after them.

There's loads of stuff about 'bothies' on Exmoor ... but these 'bothies' are of the luxury type that you pay to stay in when the yurt, tipee, pod or whatever else is trendy at present, are all full up. :D

An OS Explorer might be your best bet. All buildings (no matter what state they're in) should be marked. I imagine old mine workings could be worth looking at.
May the bridges you burn light your way

Ooh thanks.
Why do they call holiday cottages bothies when they blatantly arent?
Tent it is then.
Ho hum it weighs a ton.
