Hello,

Can anybody recommend a pair of travel trousers for me to look at. I want a pair to wear whilst travelling to Sweden, but I will then have to carry them on my bike bags so Ideally they need to be lightweight and packable. Would prefer if they can convert to shorts and have combat style pockets on the thighs. I might occasionally wear them whilst on the bike so being of a quick dry material would be an advantage for rain and washing.

If something exists please can you let me know a make and model.

I use Montane Terra trousers for travelling, cover what your wanting except cargo pockets.

Thanks Chicken Legs, they even make a convertible pair now, but holy moly they are expensive. Anybody els have any cheaper ideas?

I really like my decathlon lightweight walking trousers.

I wear them so much that my wife is in dispair!

We have a decathlon not too far away, so I'll pop in and have a look.

I have an aldi pair an craghoppers pair and a regatta pair.

All seem to do what you want at various price points
I have never weighed any of them but all are light and dry very very quickly.


The crags are noticeably better made - but this will give longevity rather than any real practical advantage in use
Personally i think some "technical" kit is way over priced. For example i once had to wear my partners leggings to go cycling - had forgotten my own. On a winter day with rain and perma drizzle. at the end of the ride these [ 2 for a fiver] trousers had kept me as dry and warm as my expensive cycling tights would have.

I've got some cheap (~£15 IIRC) Regatta ones. Dead lightweight, dry quickly, thigh pockets, two zip-offs to make shorts or 3/4s as necessary.

Had to size up as a little “snug” on my cyclists thighs (read that as big)

Comfortable in which to cycle, don’t look a spanner when away from the bike.
Pockets are handy for phone, wallet etc and don’t affect cycling.
Slightly water resistant, wind proof-ish, fast drying, light, and pack small

Be prepared to mortgage something to buy them and then brace yourself for the second pair you'll need for when the first ones are in the wash.

Sorry if someones already said. But based on research from long distance walkers when out on the trails, I basically bought the ME versions of the Montane (I think mentioned above.. Terras or whatever: wuick drying and expensive) and have had em for almost 2 years now.

Like one of above posts mentioned. I wear em so much that the missus is in dispair. Thwy quick dry. Have 2 hand pockets and 2 littler thigh pockets that dont make em look like combats but fit hands in and zip up... and one large rear zip pocket.

They're lovely (except for the fact that they started getting that bobbling in certain areas after only a year but think thats worn itself away...

Actually I think its theae lovelies. Belt was a bit rubbish (used to work loose whilst riding but no biggie and have upgraded to a Restrap -hold up to 50kg of belly- magnetic handmade thing (and its lovely)

I'm a big fan of Paramo Montero trousers (though less so the Montero Trail version). Work well on and off the bike. Very lightweight. Windproof(ish). Dry quickly. Thanks for all the suggestions, I've ordered a pair of Craighoppers and a pair of mountain warehouse ones as they were 17.99 and 9.99 each with free next day from Amazon. Hopefully one pair will fit ok.

Well the trousers arrived and the craighopper kiwi convertibles are brilliant. Lots of pockets, light weight, convert to shorts and have lots of labels saying about water resistance and quick drying. The mountain warehouse ones will go back as they aren’t in the same league and feel horrible on.
