Has anyone found, or bodged, anything to space a bag away from the bars a little?
It's not actually for bikepacking it's just to space the handlebar bag off a little on my road bike, one of these

15mm ish would do it, straps are 25mm wide

Revelate make spacers:

I'm sure it would be fairly easy to find some dense foam and make your own.

Couple of short lengths of pipe lagging? The 15mm stuff will slip over the bars snugly.

Two small pieces of plastic pipe of 25mm internal diameter. Feed the straps through in both directions so that you form a figure of eight with your bag as one loop and your bars as the other and the pipe as the crossover point.

I think Dr Jon has made some with a 3d printer. Same guy that made the stem cell and top tube bag strap attachment widget things

Strangely enough, I was contemplating laser cutting some of these this week, just trying to decide on the material. If I sort it, I'll post on here and could probably send some to you

It's not all period correct, enough wrong to upset purists

Layers of 3mm plywood, with neoprene on the outside, was my most likely choice at the moment.

Pretty much done this in the end except with some rectangular plastic with a 25x10 opening in, looks quite neat I think and gives the bag enough space to clear the gear cable and the stem bolt. Cheers

That looks significantly nicer and lighter than my laser cut idea... I think I'll go for the simple plan too! Thanks for the inspiration

What I used are actually keepers for thick webbing straps , they were a bit wider so I trimmed them down a little to sit the bag just where I wanted. I can send you some foc if you want as I have a small bag full?

They look very similar to the spacer blocks on tree straps, something I've used many a time but never thought 'outside the box' for that as an alternative use! Joined up thinking, eh

Last time I got some bits from Planet X, I added a couple of these to the order:
https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TOBYFH/nr ... ame-holder
They're supposed to be for a specific C02 setup, but they're just a shaped rubber block and a strap. I got them for holding a D-lock when I go to the pub on a bike without the usual mount, but I've also used them to hold tubes and could no doubt be used for other stuff.
The blocks have two slots for a 25mm (I think) strap, so could be used as spacers for bar bags.
I think they were only 99p when I got them, but in true Planet X fashion, they're now £2.99. And you have to order from PX

guys - Andy at backcountry has a big box of Bill and Ted spacers but don't think he has them up on the shop yet. 2 sizes, fire him a message if you are keen!
these are the bigger ones for 25-30mm webbing.

Yeah they would have been ideal if he could be bothered answering people so now I won’t buy the other thing I was going to get from his shop either
I’ve had better luck writing to Santa ... actually I’ve had better response from PlanetX

Interesting Shawn... I had some money from family to spend on a packrafting course with him this summer, but he's stopped replying to my emails about that too, so may well not see that either

This is not how businesses run imho
I asked him about specs and prices, after 3 days he replied with "Yes, I will check. cheers Andy"
that was 14 days ago
I was considering a strap deck but now I'm only buying one if I can get it straight from you
