I'm thinking of doing a C2C next year probably based on the woodcock c2c but modified want to make it as rideable as possible.
I'm looking for some advice on altering the western end of the route.
This is what i've come up so far: https://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=qwcdzeyelpiftsuz

Ta.

Best thing about that route is it goes straight past (ie. into) the Ennerdale Brewery at Rowrah at the western end :-bd

Road the route several years ago, with a few changes.

I'd leave the Lakes section as it is, as it sets up the character of the ride and gives you some of the iconic bits, such as black sail and mosedale.

I'd amend the section before Tan Hill as the original bridleway doesnt exist.
Through Swaledale, it depends if you want to go via Apedale as you'll loose a lot of height on the drop back to Grinton. There some pleasant BOATS that run from Gunnerside to Grinton on the south side of the Swale.
Looks like you've found the offroad option from Reeth.

the section from Sadgill to the A6 near Shap is, as the name suggests, very wet (Wetsleddale). There are drier options to Tebay further south.

The last bit just before Kirkby Stephen might be better a bit to the south going via Smardale Bridge. It looks like you are aiming to pick up the original route ASAP. Going a bit further south cuts out a bit of road.

Yes. Also I'd be inclined to stay north of the A685 between Kelleth and Brownber on the minor road, you aren't gaining much by using the BW to the south that goes through Bowderdale farm.

I dunno, there's a sub standard load of climbing (nearly 9000m). I reckon 3 long days for an average cyclist like me. 2 mental days for an athlete.
Anyone else got a guess?
Didn't someone do the woodcock route in sub 24hrs?

23hr 16min according to Self Supported. In the words of Fred... 'good effort'.
