Trossachs Camping Management Zone

Heading up towards Loch Katrine on the roadie on Sunday evening so I can catch the Sir Walter Scott boat on Monday morning from Stronachlachar back to the Trossachs pier and then return home via Callander. I had planned on bivvying out somewhere between Aberfoyle and Stronachlachar but I've noticed this is part of the camping management zone. Does anyone know how well this is enforced? I'll be arriving late and off again by 8am so I'm hoping I'll be able to find somewhere just off the road for 40 winks.

Is this what it's like to live in England?

Blair, how road is the road bike? If it will manage gravel then you don't have to go far into the forest to get away from the restricted areas.

If you’re bivying you won’t have a problem as the bylaw only applies to shelters (tents or tarps), so a bivy doesn’t count. But to be honest you’d be very unlucky to see a ranger, especially if you’re discreet. I live in the Trossachs, so i’m constantly roaming around these tracks on my bike and I’ve yet to see a ranger.

No restrictions around most of Loch Katrine as far as I can see from the map.

I did loch Katrine sir walter scott and cycle back with the family at easter and there looked to be plenty of spots for a late camp, early start without any real concerns if you get out of site of the road.

As has already been stated, I don't think you'll have any issues if you're discrete and arrive late/leave early. I've done the same thing plenty of times over on our side of the Management Zone (further west) and been fine. The byelaws were introduced to stop the car camping, boozed up, cheap tent in a layby with a big fire brigade so as long as you keep a low profile and use common sense about choosing a spot it's not likely to be a problem.

They can't fine you if they don't know who you are.

you will be fine, I bivvied in the woods above Aberfoyle within 'the zone' in March. I would very much doubt if anyone would have found me..... Ironically the various fisherman on the shores of loch venechar all had fires going

I’ve camped in tarbet, if you head down to the loch from opposite the hotel there is a little stand of trees, I hid a hilleburg nallo in there, a tarp would be no problem.
