Lost me with the 2 girls ref, but maybe I shouldn't ask ..

I never seem to need to go on the first 2 days of a long trip anyway, as if my body knows what's coming and soaks up the max from food maybe. Then all hell breaks .. sorry /CUT!

How many folks on here are packing a trowel to properly bury their sh1t at bivi sites.
I love free camping in Scotland but a lot of places are getting to be open sewers.
Go to those places with evidence of fire and you will also see not so lovely 'alpine roses' dotted in the nearby undergrowth.
We all need to get our houses in order before we start throwing stones at the behaviour of others.
Bury it?
Wilko do large dog poo bags. They are the brown ones. Easily hold a human turd. If I can pick up my dogs, I can pick up mine.

What type of peg are we talking about? My trowel isn’t the easiest to pack

Try one of these:

Carrying out turds! Very commendable and a more than a little bit SAS  A bit OTT as well though, don't you think?

What a relief - I thought there was something wrong with me!

I must confess, whilst riding round the dales after sunset last night, knackered from a long day, I passed a ‘campsite’ with the beer and wine flowing, lingering smell of bbq, and a big open fire. I couldn’t help thinking how much I’d rather be enjoying the party than suffering on my silly bicycle...!

£20, but 17g. Tentlab Deuce frm ULgear. Seems like a sensible thing to have so I've following Scotroutes' dangle trowel movement. Er sorry, 'example', perhaps.

A medium sized tent stake does the trick too.

May take 1 min longer, which you may not have by the sounds of it James.

This is the thing that was discussed.

Not quite as easy to use as a trowel, but easier to pack around, and at least has more than one use.

80g - but then I save a lot more than that each time I use it.

Having it on the outside of the pack is handy. As the Bikepackers Guide to the Galaxy says - you've always got to know where your trowel is.

Ha... I was going to pop it at the base of the seatpack, should go ok there. Well, apart from on day 3, where it will be ready to hand..

Multi-use kit is always good though. It'll make a good main peg for pegging the bike out as a tarp support, my tent or bivi pegs are all a lot smaller. Doubt I'd ever make a fish spear from it. Or fry an egg on it.

Being tight I decided to try one of these, no idea how it can only be £1.32 as surely the postage should be more than that

Blizzard stake here. But the handle hurts so I use a grip from a golf club to make it more comfortable

So tempted to comment on how one end is softer than the other and the harder end has a little hole in it for better accuracy, but I'm above all that...

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

On Saturday we had a chat with Stu from Dales Bike Centre. He mentioned that there had been a (wedding?) group up at Grinton YHA recently who wanted to let off fireworks and chinese lanterns  This on a site next to several square kilometres of tinder dry heather moorland! Apparently words were said.

We had this at our wedding.

Our old house was slap bang in the middle of a massive beech forest and it was a very dry August.

The friends who brought them simply couldn't wrap their heads around what we were saying and could not grasp how it was anything more than a lovely idea to see pretty lights in the sky.

Leave the stakes behind...what you're after is a short/small metal shoe horn. Sh!t shovel that oddly enough will double as a shoe horn when your feet are swollen from multi-day abuse.

Can someone enlighten a newbie. I need to bury my mess but does the paper stay with it or get packed out.

Please tell me it is OK to use paper. Otherwise I need to learn to shake hands with my left

Yes, you can use paper. Worth remembering that 'white' paper breaks down faster than coloured / dyed paper. Once deposited safely in hole, a good rattle about with a stick will help speed the process further ... maybe the origin of Pooh sticks?
