Alpkit LoveMud Confucius bars

Hi

Anyone used these bars? I saw some at the London Bike show and liked the idea. Great VFM they seem too.

I'm thinking of some for my fatbike.

Also, any recommendations for those that own/owned them in terms of a bar bag? I have seen the one from Alpkit (Drop Bear) but I'd prefer one slightly smaller.

TIA

Evening,

I've been using mine off and on (mostly on) for about 18 months I think. If they didnt have the loop on the front, they'd just be a nice cheap wide flat-ish bar. Not particularly light and they're a bit stiff, but a great shape and give an easy neutral feel anyone can get on with. Add the loop into it, and they're genuinely useful. I hang my Wildcat harness from the front of the loop to clear my cables. To keep things stable, you MUST ensure the harness is cinched as high as you can get it, and nice and tight too. So, yeah, for the money, they're lovely. Word of warning though. They will make even the prettiest bike ugly Dog. Ugly.

Thanks for the reply.

Don't worry about the look, my Pugsley is a beast!

I've ordered a pair as the deal was too good to miss. The reviews say they are a bit stiff but then 6psi in a front tyre should help.

I love the different hand positions. Find it very stiff and unforgiving, but still keeping it on despite that as I'm happy with the shape

Thanks for the reply. Im hoping they'll be ok.

I like the shape of them for sure.

On a slightly different note, anyone here know if the UK fat bike forum will be back up soon?

I understand that negotiations with the site owner are still taking place.

Great bars, a bit heavy, not had any problems with comfort due to alleged stiffness, didn't notice any difference at all tbh

The loop is genuinely useful, different hand positions, more room to mount lights/GPS etc, I strap an alpkit 20l dual lock to mine using the closure buckles on roll closures and that keeps bag secured rock solid, no need for harness or anything extra

May have to order some more

I use them on a Krampus.
Lots of room for kit and plenty left for different hand positions.
I use Ergon grips on mine and mostly use the bar ends or position my hands where the loop meets the main bar. I can also lean forward and grap the sides of the loop aero bar style.
I have my light and GPS on the front of the loop and bar roll attached either side of the stem.
They are stiff but surely that's a desirable trait in a handlebar, I wouldn't want them flopping around.

Fitted mine yesterday. They look and feel the part in the round the block test.

They really suit the Pugs look imho.

Very happy with mine. And they’ll come in handy as my new bike is designed to run a short stem so these will help no end.

But yes, heavy and stiff.

Just thought I'd update this.

I'm really pleased with the bars. I've not noticed the stiffness but I'm guessing the 6psi (sometimes slightly lower) helps with that.

I'm totally sold on the width too which I wasn't sure about when I ordered them. I have even been into 'aero tuck' on the front  I fortunately got the angle right from the outset. I couldn't have trimmed them much anyway for where I like my controls.

Still not sorted a bar bag so any recommendations welcome.

I run a large size Ortleib bar roll on mine, attached in the standard position on the main bar.
Lamp and GPS on the loop.
I like the Ortleib a lot. Totally waterproof and strong/well made.
I set the whole thing up as a job lot so cables were sized and routed to work just fine. The bag has generous spacers so I don't think it would interfere with canes anyway.
I also have the accessory pocket which gives another bunch of really useful space. It's only supposed to be 4L or something but has masses of room. It doesn't get in the way and is easy to access under the loop.
