Open access for Wales

Post by summittoppler »

As your all probably aware people behind the scenes are trying to open access here in Wales by making some (not all) footpaths open to cyclists.
We all know there isn't that many legal rights of way for a decent ride so its time to get that to change.

I was involved with them last night in some promo work and their vision is really good.

Please if you have already done so take a minute to follow the link and submit the form:

thanks

Done, though I get the feeling that whoever gets these will just filter them straight into the trash unless you customise the email.

There was a "consultation process" a few years ago by the YD national park about a proposed closure to motorised vehicles on certain green lanes (there was obvious 4WD damage to scheduled ancient monuments as one example). They received more letters/emails opposing the closures but noted that they were all a pro-forma, standard letter that didn't show that the sender had any new or particular objection.

It's worth finding the salient points and building a short reasoning supporting them.

Its worth downloading the consultation document and having a read of chapter 5. Rather than fill out the insert blanks Cycling UK letter just answer the questions they pose and then add in your own thoughts.

Looks pretty good - make all ROW's available to all non-motorised use and back it up with a statutory code of practice for responsible use. My only comment would be that I don'e see why Wales cant adopt a model like Scotland with access rights applying to most land as they are similar in geographical terms. This saves a ton of work trying to ID 'access land' and also removes further confusion for us the hapless user.

Hopefully Englandshire will quickly follow suit
