Lee- Explorer Helper is working just now on my phone. I achieved new tiles on Wednesday and Thursday and they are showing as done.

A fellow rider who I get out with sometimes uses an app called ‘statshunters’ which does the same as Explorer Helper by the sound of it.

Further up this page on a post from 2021 I mention just missing a tile an app suggested I would get. Every time I see it on my map I get a little annoyed. On Wednesday I caught a train to Lincoln to ride to Newark with the sole intention of getting the square. I got it and about 24 others.

I had a Velo Viewer app. But after resetting the phone I'm unable to find it in appstore and nor is it mentioned in their website. I think I'm still a paying member...

Anyone hot any ideas pls. Ta...

I didn't add many tiles, last year, at all.
This year I managed a few on a weekend trip to the IOW, but haven't budged past 33 x 33.
This year is looking really substandard, from a weather point of view - when are we ever going to see dust again?

Shaf - I am not aware of a VV app, I recall looking for one some years ago. I thought it was just web based, I could be wrong again.

Some nice weather would be nice. I had this weekend free and but for the weather would have gone out, thunder and hailstones yesterday made me happy at my choice.

Yes, I was using it for almost 4 years. But after factory reset of the phone I lost it and it seems to be unavailable now. If you look at alot of my pics above (Kevin!?) where I screenshot my progress. All taken from the app - though it was cheaply made and used to needs lots of petting and stroking...

So what I might do, to save myself from having to walk/run, I might start working on squaring it up towards the right (York top right corner and Doncaster bottom right).

In the meanwhile though, since I've managed to get some potential work opportunities in Wales - which if I'm careful and forward plan a bit, might not lose out on fuel and accomodation too much - so I'm hoping to fill my BB200 squares instead. Managed to nab a couple the other day and it makes sense as I doubt I'd ever be able to complete another BB200... They seem to only be getting harder, though I've only experience of the 2 so far :???:

Watch this space (or square)...

PS. BDS, your square looks rather neat... why not whack it on that there 'show us your sqaure' thread.
For example... this all taken in the app. Much easier to look at than the online map. But I guess them days are gone. Got a commute/ride to Norfolk coming up hopefully so soon I might get a bit of the South East tiles :-bd

Anyway, whilst I might have some of you VV professionals here, what's your thoughts on where I need to go and increase my square easily as possible.

I'm on 20 at the moment and been stuck there for a good while

If you head to the S of Leeds and H of Horsforth that’d get you two tiles to get to 21 squared and you might as well pick up the 4 tiles near guíseley while you’re at it.

Nice1 for that Paul
Yes, seems the most straightforward way to increase the square. I've been very neglectful of late...

After being stalled on 33x33 for what seems like a couple of years, I finally got my tile bagging legs on and, with a bit of planning, managed to get out on one of the days when Ash Ranges military area is accessible to the public.
Nice dog walk and a pub lunch took me to the dizzy heights of 34x34

Onwards...

Yeah, I got the email that DC Rainmaker shows a couple of days ago. Currently nothing on Veloviewer blog https://blog.veloviewer.com/ but I'm not sure it affects large parts of it - there's this (my emphasis):
– Strava Data provided by a specific user can only be displayed or disclosed in your Developer Application to that user. Strava Data related to other users, even if such data is publicly viewable on the Strava Platform, may not be displayed or disclosed.
So VV can still pull my data from Strava for *me* to view but... Things like the end of year graphic (fun but not really essential) aren't OK because they rely on processing/aggregating the data.

I saw the DCrainmaker blog post the other day and have kept an eye on the VV blog.

I seem to recall VV Ben had some assurances from Strava that he could use the data and it is now his full time job. Times change so I hope it all works out for him - and us.

VV had posted on FB
Thank you for all the comments and concerns around the recent changes to Strava API use. We have always had a really strong relationship with Strava, and are currently working our way through these changes with them. We will let you know more when our position is confirmed - this is likely to be in a couple more weeks.

You'd have to think their core business model is borked, but I guess that's the risk you take when you rely on a third party. Hope they can work something out, mind.

. Strava seems to want to own the “AI space” with its always-helpful AI insights that simply re-word my activity titles and tell me something vaguely positive but usually wrong.
Like the one that I got telling me that a mediocre ride was my longest yet - just a few days after a weekend of much longer back to back rides (neither of which were anywhere near my actual longest ride.)

AI can also stand for Actual Idiocy

Veloviewer have posted an update - https://blog.veloviewer.com/update-on-s ... eloviewer/. Currently it doesn't look like the Strava change affects VV too much.

Not sure if it’s something that I’ve missed but is there an option in VV on a mobile to show your current location?

I missed a square yesterday by about 20m. TBF I didn’t realise that the route went close to it nor that I was close at the time

The only thing I’ve come across is a garmin iq app called Everytile for vv - I’ve not used it but you set it up as a data screen on your garmin device and it gives some form of visual clue when you’ve gone into a unexplored square.

Hi Bob. It's this here app. But a bit temperamental when updating your squares.

Sadly at the mentioned it doesn't allow me to see my tiles but it does show my location/gps position and where I've ridden. Maybe it's a software version thing on my phone! I used to use it to collect tile by clicking gps position with the app open. Then just fetching any adjacent empty squares/tiles.

Pity it doesn't work fully for me right now. Keeps saying 'app crashed' when I try to recreate the tiles.

Should be a 4 pointed compass above the zoom buttons in the bottom right of the Activity page in Chrome. Turns from white to grey when pressed. It doesn't show your location instantly, normally I find it takes 10 seconds or so to load the basemap.

Ta. Exactly what I was looking for. It works in Safari on IPhone ( which it should as the geolocation API has been around for a good ten years) I’ll check out the IQ app for my Garmin.

I should say that it worked pretty much instantly for me, less than a second.

Yes the App crashes but it's just a glitch and works next attempt. I go into the web version first to load up tiles then try loading the App. In Scotland max square is limited unless you are a good swimmer or mountaineer 🤭. It's number of tiles for me now.

The Explorer Helper app is Android only so no use for iPhone.

The "show your location" button mentioned by Dean isn't persistent - if you shut the browser or the tab down then the next time you visit the site you have to enable it again. If you just turn the phone screen off then your location is still shown when you log back in.

Have installed the IQ app but not set it up properly/at all so still to figure it out - a bit tricky around home since I've ticked off all those tiles
